  • Patent number: 10375273
Abstract: A supply item has toner for use in an imaging device. A chip has memory storing quanta indicating allowed usage of the supply item over its lifetime and a multiplier correlating the quanta to toner mass. The imaging device requires quanta to conduct imaging operations and loads the quanta and multiplier by way of a certificate stored in the memory. The imaging device retrieves quanta from the chip over time and both devices keep tally. Initialization between the supply item and imaging device includes providing encrypted and unencrypted instances of firmware versions and certificates from the supply item that the imaging device can compare for security. Alternatively, the supply item defines a fuser assembly, imaging unit, intermediate transfer member, or other component installed for use in the imaging device.

  • Patent number: 9569631
Abstract: A method and apparatus for configuring an electronics device. The method includes receiving, by the electronics device, a request for a command to perform a predetermined operation by the electronics device and sending the command in response to receiving the request. The electronics device then receives a signature based upon the command, whereupon the electronics device verifies the signature by the electronics device and, following an affirmative verification, executes the command for performing the predetermined operation. In this way, the electronics device may be reconfigured remotely without knowledge of the particular command for performing the predetermined operation by the electronics device.

  • Patent number: 8172381
Abstract: A multi-color ink tank includes certain features that properly interface with features on a printhead and carrier support structure to operatively seat the ink tank in the carrier support structure in a sealed flow communicative relationship with the printhead. These interface features are spaced apart relative to one another at distances (or dimensions) that ensure the desired seating and sealing of the ink tank in the carrier support structure and thereby the reliable supply of ink for operation of the inkjet printing system.

  • Publication number: 20100293095
Abstract: A method for securely identifying whether an end user owns a particular device from a manufacturer and is a valid participant in a promotion with a partner of the manufacturer. The method allows an end user to verify ownership of a particular device via a computer network and securely obtain promotion related information which enables the end user to participate in a given sales promotion with a retail partner of the manufacturer of the device.

  • Publication number: 20100209018
Abstract: An image forming device including an electronic filing cabinet is provided. The electronic filing cabinet stores documents output from the image forming device or read into the image forming device. The electronic filing cabinet may include an optical character recognition unit, an indexing engine and a storage device. The optical character recognition unit scans or otherwise inspects the documents and generates timestamps for the documents. The scanned information is provided to the indexing engine. The indexing engine classifies and indexes the documents according to a first predefined set of rules. Thereafter, the indexed documents are stored in the storage device. A human machine interface is provided for updating the first predefined set of rules. Previously stored documents may also be retrieved through the human machine interface.
