  • Patent number: 6962662
Abstract: A process for removing metal sulfates from dilute aqueous solutions in which a conductivity control solution is injected into the stream. The solution is selected to increase the conductivity of the stream to a value wherein the ion state of each metal is then modified by passing the stream between electrodes of each pair of an array of pairs of electrodes. A voltage is imposed across each pair of electrodes, selected according to a target ion state for each of the various contaminants. The pH of the stream is then increased to a value where precipitate of metal hydroxide of the metal sulfates are formed. The precipitated metal hydroxide is then removed from the stream leaving a reduced amount of sulfate ions.

  • Patent number: 6842867
Abstract: A method is provided for identifying in a computer system physical memory modules having failing or defective addresses. The transparent error correction function of the computer system is disabled and system memory is tested. If an error is detected, a coded data value that indicative of a single-bit error is written to the failing or defective memory address. The failing or defective memory address is read in and the incorrect data value in the memory address is detected. The address of the failing of defective memory address is recorded and mapped or correlated to a physical memory module.

  • Patent number: 6790352
Abstract: An apparatus for treating water contaminated with metal sulfates and sulfuric acid such as acid mine drainage (AMD) which in part recycles high pH effluent from later steps in the process back to the earlier steps of the process. The recycled high pH effluent added with magnesium hydroxide to the entering AMD generates precipitates separable from the stream to leave sulfate ladened water. A tangential filtering process is used to separate the sulfate ladened water into one stream of pure water and a second stream containing sulfate. One portion of the second stream is treated with ammonia to yield a cake of ammonia sulfate and aqueous ammonia. Ca(OH)2 is added to another portion of the second stream to produce calcium sulfate cake and the high pH effluent that is recycled back to the first step in the cycle.

  • Publication number: 20030177119
Abstract: An improved method and system for comparing database data. Data comparison may be performed either within a database or between two databases. Sets of cyclical redundancy check values may be created, at various points in time. Corresponding cyclical redundancy check values may be compared with each other to determine if the underlying data is different; differences may be displayed. Each cyclical redundancy check value may correspond to a user-determined amount of data within the database. The user-determined amount of data may be: (1) user-specified columns within one of the plurality of tables within the database; (2) a row within one of the plurality of tables within the database; (3) a table within the database; (4) the database in its entirety; or (5) any other subset of the database. A user-determined number of bytes corresponding to a user-determined subset of the user-determined amount of data may be stored for future use.

  • Patent number: 6604731
Abstract: A utility winch having a single planet gear assembly that commonly engages adjacent ring gears, one ring gear fixed and the other rotatable. The planet gears of the planet assembly have inner and outer portions that rotate together and have different diameters and different numbers of teeth, one ring gear engaged with an inner portion and a second ring gear engaged with an outer portion of the planet gears. Said ring gears matched to the respective planet gear portions and having different numbers of teeth and different diameters as required to achieve involute engagement of the ring gears and planet gears whereby the rotatable gear is caused to rotate at a substantially reduced rate of rotation. Said rotatable ring gear is fixed to the winch reel for reduced rotation of the reel.

  • Publication number: 20020168423
Abstract: A disinfectant using as a base formed by selecting one of a metal, metal hydride, metal oxide metal hydroxide and an acid wherein the acid forms an insoluble salt with the metal, adding to a solution of the acid in gram equivalent amounts the metal hydride and filtering the resultant solution to obtain a form of essentially pure activated water that exhibits a high oxidation potential as evidenced by a pH less than 2. Analysis of the activated water shows less than 2500 ppm sulfate concentration which is cetainly substatnially less than a concetration to explain the low pH. In order to adapt the “activated water” to application as an antiseptic to the skin, a carrier (film forming oil) is added which forms a film and retains metal salts that render the remaining film bactericidal after the activated water has evaporated.

  • Patent number: 6452695
Abstract: An adapter device is provided for connection to a printer and an image input device, such as a document scanner or digital camera, that enables the printer to operate as a digital copier for image data received from the image input device. The adapter device includes an input/output controller, memory and a processor. The input/output controller controls the exchange of information with the printer and with the image input device. The memory buffers input device driver software for the image input device and printer driver software for the printer, and also stores image data output by the image input device. The processor is responsive to commands made from a control panel to initiate operation of the image input device under control of the input device driver software. The processor also processes image data from the image input device under control of the printer driver software and generates printer data to be printed by the printer.

  • Patent number: 6175324
Abstract: A novel frequency scheme for a police radar detector enables improved sweeping of the X, K, Ku and Ka radar bands. The novel frequency scheme requires two initial frequency conversions for detection of the X, K and Ka radar bands and a single initial frequency conversion for the Ku radar band with single initial frequency conversion being enabled by disabling the second mixer. During sweeping of the X, K and Ka bands, selectable, i.e., upper or lower, sideband suppression is employed to reduce undesired image sidebands and noise prior to the second frequency conversion. In addition, noise at the second IF frequency is reduced to prevent this noise from feeding through the second mixer into the second IF amplifier. During the Ku band sweep, the second mixer is bypassed and shunting of signals at the second IF frequency is disabled so that these signals enter the second IF amplifier.
