    Abstract: Monitoring apparatus 12 for monitoring bearing wear in a large two stroke internal combustion engine 10. The apparatus 12 includes two proximity sensors 14 which are arranged to detect the position of a guide shoe 18 at the bottom dead centre of its stroke. Respective detected positions of the guide shoe 18 over time are compared to provide an indication of bearing wear.
