  • Patent number: 5468186
Abstract: An adjustable louver assembly including a box like member having a plurality of longitudinal extending parallel louvers. The outer most of the louvers forming the top and bottom thereof and further including lateral sides interconnecting the top and bottom louvers. The box has an open front and back side and includes a plurality of vertical ribs, having a circular cross section, which interconnect each of the horizonal louvers. A plurality of planar air deflectors having complimentary means formed on a vertical edge thereof are adapted to engage one of the vertically extending ribs to thereby mount the deflectors for pivotal movement about the rib with the deflector extending perpendicular to the horizonal louvers.

  • Patent number: 5467610
Abstract: A window air conditioner of the type having a basepan having a vertically extending partition which divides the unit into indoor and outdoor sections. The partition has a horizontally extending rib formed at the upper end thereof. The indoor section includes an evaporator coil at the front of the basepan, and a condensate pan mounted in the basepan under the evaporator coil. An evaporator fan scroll is mounted in the basepan rearwardly of the evaporator coil and is positioned by cooperation with the condensate pan and the partition. A control box is mounted in the indoor section overlying a portion of the condensate pan and has an upper surface which engages the horizontal rib formed in the partition. An indoor fan motor is mounted within the control box and drives an indoor fan which has an axis of rotation which extends parallel to the basepan and the partition, and which is spaced from the interior surface of the scroll.

  • Patent number: 5461880
Abstract: A control box assembly for use in an air conditioner of the type having an enclosure which includes a basepan and an outer housing. The air conditioner has an inside section and an outside section in the enclosure which are divided by a partition which forms a part of the basepan. The outside section includes an outside heat exchanger, a compressor, and an outside fan driven by an outside fan motor. The inside section includes an inside heat exchanger and an inside fan driven directly by an inside fan motor. The control box assembly includes a molded plastic box having an open end which has mounted therein the control switches for the compressor and the outside and inside motors. Inside fan motor is mounted and supported within the control box. A molded plastic cover is adapted to snap fit onto the control box to cover the opening and further support the inside fan motor.

  • Patent number: 5454231
Abstract: An indoor grille for a window room air conditioner of the type which has an indoor basepan which includes a downwardly extending horizontal rib on its underside. The unit includes a discharge deck at the upper side which substantially defines the entire upper indoor cover of the unit. The discharge deck has left and right ends thereof each of which is in vertically spaced relation with a precision located structural portion of the unit. Each of the structural portions is provided with a protrusion extending vertically upward therein in the space defined between the deck and the structural portions. The inlet grille includes a front wall and left and right hand wall portions integrally formed therewith. A lower flange extends from each of the front, left and right hand walls to extend beneath the basepan. An upper flange portion is provided extending from the upper edge of both the left and right hand walls.

  • Patent number: 5396778
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for mounting a thermostat capillary in close proximity to the inside face of the indoor heat exchanger of a room air conditioner. The air conditioner includes a thermostat mounted in operational proximity to the heat exchanger which has a capillary extending therefrom. The indoor heat exchanger includes a flat surface adapted to receive a flow of air therethrough and having a pair of tube sheets at opposite ends thereof. One of the tube sheets is adjacent the capillary. Both of the tube sheets extend forwardly from the flat surface of the indoor heat exchanger a distance at least as far as the thickness of the capillary. The tube sheet adjacent to the capillary has a recess formed therein to receive the capillary.

  • Patent number: 5388425
Abstract: An electrical grounding system for an air conditioner which has substantially all components, except electrical and refrigeration circuit components, made from an electrically insulating material. The air conditioners indoor section includes a metal indoor heat exchanger and an indoor fan motor. The outdoor section includes a metal heat exchanger, an outdoor fan and a compressor. The indoor heat exchanger, outdoor heat exchanger and compressor are connected by electrically conducted tubing. A plastic electrical control box is mounted in the indoor section. The electrical control box has an electrically conductive grounding plate mounted in the interior thereof. Means are provided for interconnecting the ground lead from the units power service cord to the grounding plate. All electrical controls and other components in the indoor section are grounded directly to the grounding plate. An outdoor section grounding lead electrically interconnects the grounding plate with the outdoor heat exchanger.
