  • Patent number: 9296258
Abstract: An axle shaft has radially outwardly extending drive fingers which drivingly engage drive slots in a wheel hub cover. The hub cover is rigidly secured to a wheel hub and maintains the axial position of the axle shaft. A shock absorber may be positioned between the drive fingers and the drive slots. The axle shaft may be formed from a hollow tube or a solid shaft by cutting an end portion of the shaft and deforming a cut section radially outwardly to form a drive finger.

  • Patent number: 9266395
Abstract: An axle shaft has an inboard end portion with a spline for engagement with a differential assembly and an outboard end with a flange for mounting a wheel hub assembly. One or both of the end portions have cavities for weight reduction. The inboard end portion cavity extends underneath the spline. The outboard end portion cavity extends completely underneath the flange.

  • Publication number: 20150240880
Abstract: An axle assembly includes an axle in frictional driving engagement with a wheel hub. A torque limiting assembly limits the amount of torque that can be transmitted between the axle and hub. The torque limiting assembly includes an arm or rod, such as the shaft of a bolt, which biases the axle and hub together to provide a predetermined slipping torque. The rod or arm is housed in a clamp which extends axially over the outer peripheries of an axle flange and a hub flange.

  • Patent number: 5381773
Abstract: A modular system for providing electrical power to the input contact of an engine igniter is constructed within a hollow container. The container includes a space for mechanically mounting and providing electrical power to the igniter. When the igniter is placed within the hollow container, electrical contact is made between the exciter module and the engine igniter.

  • Patent number: 5283499
Abstract: An improved igniter and cable connector assembly for turbine engines. An igniter mounting adapter is secured to the engine. The igniter slides into a hole through the adapter and is retained by an enlarged head on the igniter. An annular seal is positioned around a high voltage terminal on the igniter head and a terminal on the cable connector is positioned against the igniter terminal. The cable connector is secured to the adapter, for example, by either a clamp assembly or a coupling nut or a quick release connector. As the cable connector is secured to the adapter, the seal is compressed between the igniter and connector insulators and, optionally, the connector terminal is rotated and pressed against the igniter terminal to establish a reliable electrical contact. The connector and igniter terminals preferably have mating conical or spherical surfaces, one of which may be an annular segment to provide an increased electrical contact area.

  • Patent number: 5187404
Abstract: An improved low voltage igniter of the type having an annular spark gap between a center electrode and annular ground electrode which is arranged coaxial with the center electrode. The spark gap is shunted by an insulator surface. Semiconducting material is deposited on the insulator surface as one or more rings which are coaxial with and spaced from the electrodes. The semiconducting rings reduce the voltage required to initiate a spark across the spark gap.

  • Patent number: 4978309
Abstract: An improved high voltage igniter connector for aircraft applications. An insulator projecting from the cable connector extends into a tubular insulator in the igniter. An electrical contact at the free end of the connector insulator is urged into contact with a center electrode terminal in the igniter. A resilient annular first seal is formed between the connector and an end of the igniter insulator. A resilient annular second seal is located between the connector insulator and the interior wall of the igniter insulator near the free end of the connector insulator to increase resistance to flashover at the connector.
