Patent number: 11937836Abstract: A clot removal device for removing a clot from a body vessel is presented. The device can facilitate clot retrieval by expanding in such a way as to engage the clot over a significant surface area. The clot can have at least one firm portion and at least one soft portion. At least one firm portion of the clot can be pinched by a proximal portion of the device while at least one soft portion of the clot can be retained by the distal portion of the device upon extraction. However, dislodgement and removal of the clot can cause softer portions the clot to shear or break, resulting in small floating fragments of clot in the vessel no longer attached to the main clot. This device can also capture and retain sheared or expanded distal portions of the clot upon removal of the clot from a vessel.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2020Date of Patent: March 26, 2024Assignee: NEURAVI LIMITEDInventor: Stephen Whelan

Publication number: 20230355258Abstract: A method for removing a clot from a vessel involves the use of a device that can have dual layers where an inner expandable member runs within an outer expandable member. The inner expandable member can be divided into one or more sections, with a proximal section having a clot pinching structure configured to pinch the clot between the pinching structure and an outer catheter. A distal flow channel section of the inner member can be configured to create a flow channel through the clot to restore blood to the downstream vasculature. The struts of the outer expandable member can form closed cells that are not fully circumferential in a proximal portion to allow a clot to pass inside and engage the pinching structure, and fully circumferential in a distal portion to scaffold the vessel for dislodging the clot. A protective element at the distal end of the device can prevent the escape of clot fragments.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 5, 2023Publication date: November 9, 2023Applicant: Neuravi LimitedInventor: Stephen WHELAN

Publication number: 20220304711Abstract: A balloon guide catheter including a catheter shaft having a reflowable material outer layer. Secured without an adhesive to the catheter shaft is a balloon having a bond interface area with a plurality of punctures defined therein secured about the outer layer of the catheter shaft via seepage of the reflowable material of the outer layer into the plurality of punctures forming a radially outward reflow bond between the catheter shaft and the balloon. Along the bond interface area about the perimeter of the opening in the balloon, a single reflow jacket is secured to the balloon via seepage of the reflowable material of the single reflow jacket into the plural punctures of the balloon forming a radially inward reflow bond. The single reflow jacket is made of a reflowable material and has an opening defined therein aligned with the balloon.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2022Publication date: September 29, 2022Inventor: Stephen Whelan

Publication number: 20220296262Abstract: The disclosed technology includes a clot retrieval device being configured to retrieve a clot from a blood vessel and having a constrained delivery configuration and a clot engaging configuration. The device can include a first expandable framework having a first plurality of struts that form a first body and a second expandable framework having a second plurality of struts that form a second body upon the clot retrieval device transitioning from the constrained delivery configuration to the clot engaging configuration. In the clot engaging configuration, the first body can be configured to move from a first position to a second position in relation to the second body. Upon moving from the first position to the second position, the clot retrieval device can pinch the clot between the first body and the second body.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2021Publication date: September 22, 2022Applicant: Neuravi LimitedInventors: Thomas O'MALLEY, Stephen WHELAN

One or more reflow jackets made of a reflowable material may also be disposed about the bond interface area of the balloon seeping into the plural punctures forming a radially inward reflow bond.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2020Publication date: February 3, 2022Inventor: Stephen Whelan
