  • Patent number: 11123766
Abstract: A high-voltage pulser circuit for Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) coils using a Capacitive Discharge push-pull converter. The present invention relates in particular to the operation of the converter into an Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) differential coil. The present invention reduces ringing of the coil current resulting in a smaller blind zone and a well-defined broadband ultrasonic wave from the coil. The pulser can be used to generate one or more cycles and work in either pulse-echo (same transmitter and receiver) or pitch-catch (different transmitter and receiver).

  • Patent number: 7817452
Abstract: A phase shifted H-bridge resonant converter with symmetrical currents includes, a DC storage cap (31), four switches (1-4) with a parallel turn off network consisting of diodes (5-8), capacitors (9), (11), (14), (16), resistors (10), (12), (13), (15). The subsequent output of switches (1-4), is arranged in series with DC blocking caps (17-18), connected to a low mutually coupled inductor (32), an AC resistive load, capacitor (19), resistor (20) across inductor (32), with capacitors (22), (23) that comprise a resonant tank circuit, and is connected to the primary of transformer (21) wherein the interaction between the two coils of the low mutually coupled inductor (32) provides symmetrical currents within the switches and resonant tank circuit. Further, output rectification may be arranged by use of secondary winding of transformer (21), diodes (24-27), filter inductor (28), filter capacitor (29), and load resistor (30).

  • Publication number: 20090046482
Abstract: An H-bridge, phase shifted resonant converter, with symmetrical switched currents is described. This includes open and short circuit protection, with phase shift operation to zero output. The proposed circuit includes an H-bridge converter, employing the use of a “loosely” coupled inductor in place of the standard series inductor(s) to reduce the peak currents. In addition, the current will be symmetrical in all of the H-bridge switching devices. Furthermore, the impedance of the “loosely” coupled inductor controls the maximum current in the H-bridge in an open, short, or under load conditions. The “loosely” coupled inductor, with the addition of a small AC load, enhances the operation of the converter near zero output. The control circuit of the H-bridge converter can be modulated to completely shut off the output without the introduction of complex circuitry.
