  • Publication number: 20180227835
Abstract: A communication technique for establishing communication among an access point, an electronic device, and a radio node in a cellular-telephone network is described. In this communication technique, the electronic device is pre-provisioned by the radio node with an identifier of the cellular-telephone network. Moreover, the access point may advertise support for one or more LWA protocols in beacons. In response to a query from the electronic device, the access point may provide identifiers of the one or more cellular-telephone networks supported by the access point. If one of these identifiers matches the identifier, the electronic device may associate with the access point. Then, the access point may receive LWA traffic from the radio node and may forward the LWA traffic to the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 10045364
Abstract: An electronic device modifies a schedule of communication frequencies (such as an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access schedule) by changing the times when subcarriers are used for communication with a set of electronic devices in order to cluster subsets of the set of electronic devices. This clustering may leave the throughput associated with the communication at least approximately unchanged. Then, the electronic device selects, for the subsets, transmit antenna radiation patterns and receive antenna radiation patterns in order to increase the throughputs during transmission and/or receiving.

  • Publication number: 20180083949
Abstract: In order to leverage an enterprise-hosted network (EHN) associated with an entity, a communication technique may dynamically customize an application on a portable electronic device. In particular, the portable electronic device may discover and then may connect to the EHN using a quarantine zone that restricts access to the EHN. After providing valid credentials to establish a level of trust with the EHN, the portable electronic device may receive a request for authentication and authorization information. In response to the request, the portable electronic device may provide a credential to the EHN. Next, the portable electronic device may receive provisioning information that customizes the application on the portable electronic device to a venue associated with the entity. The provisioning information may include a connection setting associated with the application on the portable electronic device, which allows the portable electronic device to connect to the EHN outside of the quarantine zone.

  • Publication number: 20170041859
Abstract: During a communication technique, an access point provides a message that includes one or more public land mobile network identifiers of one or more cellular-telephone networks that are supported by the access point. Then, an electronic device, which received the message, provides a candidate list specifying one or more access points that support communication with a cellular telephone network to a radio node that is associated with this cellular-telephone network. By communicating with a wireless-local-area-network (WLAN) controller, the radio node validates the one or more access points, and selects a target access point based on performance feedback from the WLAN controller. Next, the radio node instructs the electronic device to associate with the target access point. Moreover, the radio node and the target access point establish a secure-communication pathway, which allows the radio node to communicate data to the electronic device via the access point using an LTE Wi-Fi aggregation protocol.

  • Patent number: 4475570
Abstract: A water hydrant is provided with a number of valves operable to eliminate freezing problems and to prevent backflow into potable water, thereby precluding the danger of contamination. Water and air valves operate in conjunction such that trapping of water in the hydrant is averted by the admission of air after each closing of the water valve. By a somewhat different arrangement in outlet spout valving, air is also admitted to the spout after each closing of the water valve or other reduction in water pressure, the spout valving having the additional feature of blocking backflow, all of which meets the anti-contamination requirements of the hydrant.
