  • Patent number: 8798286
Abstract: A method includes receiving input from a remote control device at a set-top box device. The input identifies media content that includes audio content and video content. The input also indicates that the audio content is to be output via an audio output device coupled to the set-top box device without sending the video output from the set-top box device to an external display device coupled to the set-top box device. The method includes determining whether the media content is stored at a local memory device of the set-top box device. When the media content is stored at the local memory device, the method includes retrieving the media content from the local memory, sending a first audio signal corresponding to the audio content of the media content to the audio output device and blocking output of the video content to the external display device.

  • Patent number: 8014542
Abstract: A system, set-top box, and method of providing audio content are disclosed. In a particular embodiment, the set-top box device includes an audio input device that is configured to receive a voice command. The set-top box device also includes a display disposed on a visible side of a set-top box housing. Additionally, the set-top box device includes a media control logic module to retrieve audio content identified by the voice command and data related to the audio content. The media control logic module transmits an audio signal corresponding to the audio content to an audio output device. The data related to the audio content is displayable on the display.

  • Publication number: 20070274716
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing local warning of a low battery condition from an optical network terminal to a device in a customer premises are disclosed. An example optical network terminal is coupled to a power supply having a battery. The power supply sends a data signal to the optical network terminal indicating a condition of the battery. The optical network terminal includes a data port to receive the data signal from the power supply. The optical network terminal has a computer data port. A controller is provided to read the data signal and send a warning signal of the battery condition via the computer port to a device in a customer premises serviced by the power supply.

  • Publication number: 20070121811
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for an opt-in voice session recording in a communication device. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a communication device (200) having a transceiver (102) for communicating with a second communication device, an audio system (206) for exchanging audible signals with an end user of the communication device, and a controller (214) for managing operations of the transceiver and the audio system. The controller can be programmed to establish (304) a voice session with the second communication device, transmit (308) to the second communication device a request to record the voice session, receive (316) from the second communication device a grant to record the voice session, and record (320) the voice session in response to the grant. Additional embodiments are disclosed.
