  • Publication number: 20220384171
Abstract: An atmospheric pressure ionisation (API) ion source is provided that comprises a heater configured to heat a spray of droplets. The ion source may comprise a target, where the spray of droplets is arranged to impact upon the target. An inductive heater may be configured to surround and heat at least a part of the target. Alternatively, a resistive heater may be configured within a target comprising an electrically conductive tube. Also, there may be provided an inductive heater configured to heat a flow of gas, wherein the heated flow of gas is arranged to heat the spray of droplets.

  • Patent number: 10991560
Abstract: A method of mass or ion mobility spectrometry is disclosed that uses the Leidenfrost effect to cause a liquid to be repelled away from a heated surface so as to levitate above there-above. The repelled liquid is urged so as to move along the surface in a predetermined direction, for example, by the geometric configuration of the heated surface.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 27, 2021
    Assignee: Micromass UK Limited
Inventors: Jeffery Mark Brown, Steve Bajic, Steven Derek Pringle

  • Patent number: 7041972
Abstract: An Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionisation ion source is disclosed wherein the current applied to a corona needle 2 is repeatedly varied between two or more settings during a single experimental run or acquisition. Two or more separate sets of mass spectral or mass analysed data are obtained. The ion source in one embodiment comprises a heated tube 1 arranged to discharge gas and analyte into a housing 7 enclosing corona needle 2. The housing 7 comprises a gas outlet port 3 via which analyte ions exit. According to another embodiment the corona needle does not have to be enclosed within a housing.
    Type: Grant
