  • Publication number: 20240308192
Abstract: This disclosure concerns paper-based packaging films having a structure including a paper component, a 2 to 10 micron thick polymeric film coated with a barrier material, and a patterned scalable material. The structure is easily recyclable by repulping, yet retains high-performance packaging characteristics including high barrier, triple-point caulking and high run speed on packaging equipment. This disclosure also describes sealed packages having paper-based packaging films.

  • Publication number: 20240083150
Abstract: A paper-based packaging film comprising a fiber-based component, a polymeric film comprising a thickness from 2 micron and 8 micron, the polymeric film coated with a barrier material comprising a metal, a metal oxide or an inorganic oxide, a layer comprising a heat sealable polymer, and an adhesive layer located between the fiber-based component and the barrier material. The polymeric film is one of oriented polyester film, oriented polylactic acid film, polyester, polylactic acid, ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer and polyvinyl alcohol copolymer, and the total composition of the paper-based packaging film includes a fiber content greater than 80%, by weight.
