  • Publication number: 20050130590
Abstract: A shuttle message that is passed between GPS enabled devices that is processed at either a bit level or word level with data that the GPS enable device has already gathered and augmenting the positioning data stored at GPS enabled devices by retrieving data contained in the shuttle message. The shuttle message is then passed with any updated information from a GPS enabled device to one or more other devices such as a mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6411844
Abstract: Therapeutic shocks generated by implantable cardiac stimulators, such as implantable cardioverter-defibrillator devices, may result in residual charges being deposited on the defibrillation electrodes and/or polarization of the tissues surrounding the defibrillation electrodes. These parasitic charges and polarization may mask a possible ventricular fibrillation of the heart following the application of the therapeutic shocks because such a ventricular fibrillation is characterized by intrinsic signals of very small amplitudes. A small duration pulse is applied to the electrodes right after a therapeutic shock. In addition, or alternatively, the electrodes can also be shorted together to dissipate the parasitic charges and the polarization of the tissue. As a result, a ventricular fibrillation can be detected earlier than in previous cardiac stimulators.

  • Patent number: 6347380
Abstract: A phase locked loop is employed to provide a clock signal for controlling the reading or writing of audio data from or into a memory to avoid memory overflow and underrun. The difference between the write and read pointers is monitored and used for adjusting a divider counter used in the feedback loop of the phase locked loop, by incrementing, decrementing by one or leaving unchanged the value of the counter. The counter is used to divide the output of the phase locked loop to provide a reference signal to the phase locked loop. A reference frequency for reading the audio data may be set close to the writing speed by incrementing or decrementing the reading speed by fine adjustment steps until the reference frequency is reached. After the reference frequency is reached, the reading speed is changed between the reference frequency and a frequency one fine adjustment step away from the reference frequency so that the average reading speed is equal to the writing speed.

  • Patent number: 6311912
Abstract: A shuttle bobbin (1) for sewing machines having a first (11) and second (12) disc-shaped end walls concentrically and integrally formed at both ends of a hub. The diameter of the first end wall (11) being larger than that of the second end wall (12). A partition wall (13) is concentrically and integrally formed at an intermediate portion of the hub, thus partitioning the hub into firsts and second winding parts (15a, 15b). The partition wall (13) is smoothly toothed (13a, 13b) at its outside edges, thus having rounded teeth and rounded roots at the outside edges. The diameter of the addendum circle of the toothed partition wall (13) is equal to the diameter of the first end wall (11) while the diameter of the deddendum circle is equal to the second end wall (12). The second winding part (15b), defined by the second end wall and the partition wall, is positioned just under the lowest position of a sewing needle when the bobbin is installed in a sewing machine.

  • Patent number: 5836981
Abstract: A DC-to-DC converter circuit is disclosed for use in a pacemaker. The DC-to-DC converter circuit is capable of producing a pulse burst and boosting the voltage of the pulse burst up to an effective pacing amplitude, thereby eliminating the need for the multiple pump capacitors and the output capacitor. The DC-to-DC converter circuit uses a transformer to amplify the battery voltage to the required pacing amplitude. By using a transformer, DC leakage current is eliminated without the use of a decoupling capacitor, thereby achieving lower pacing thresholds. Also, each patient may be individually tested to determine their response to high frequency pulse bursts and a "customized" pacing waveshape can be produced by varying the duty cycle, polarity or pulse burst of each stimulation signal. The DC-to-DC converter circuit also reduces the polarization effect of the tissue around the electrodes.
