    Abstract: A composition and method for cleaning metal and for inhibiting corrosion of metal. The composition is composed of an alkaline metal salt, a surfactant, and a corrosion inhibitor with a pH in the range from about 7.5 to less than 10, and is preferably silicate free. The corrosion inhibitor is provided in the form of a combination of a triazole compound and an alkali metal borate. The composition can be employed to clean metal surfaces as an aqueous concentrate or aqueous solution.
