Patent number: 7904797Abstract: The present invention provides a unique system and method for facilitating browsing, sorting, clustering, and filtering any number of media objects grouped together in a quick and easy manner. In particular, the invention involves annotating the media objects, which have been clustered, sorted, and/or filtered en masse rather than individually, with metadata. The media objects may be selected by a user and annotated with a plurality of metadata as desired by a user in order to optimize utilization of the media objects. The media objects may also be combined and/or mixed in any number of ways to create new media objects. Media objects may include an audio component, a visual component, a portion thereof, and/or any combination thereof.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2003Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Curtis G. Wong, Steven M. Drucker, Steve Glenner, Asta L. Glatzer, Steven D. DeMar

Patent number: 7739597Abstract: The present invention provides a unique system and method that facilitates remote browsing, viewing, and manipulating any suitable number of media items from a host location. In particular, the invention involves pulling desired media items from one or more host locations to view and/or edit them on a remote interactive media display, thereby freeing up use of the host location/computer. The media items sent to the remote interactive media display via wireless or wired connection are easily edited, organized, and viewed in any suitable order, arrangement, and timed-cycle with respect to per item viewing as well as viewing of items coincident with a real time calendar. The media items can be annotated and otherwise modified from the remote display and saved to the host location. The remote interactive media frame also includes a local storage for storing media items, thereby facilitating portability of the media frame when disconnected from the host.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2003Date of Patent: June 15, 2010Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Curtis G. Wong, Steve Glenner, Steven M. Drucker, Asta L. Glatzer

Publication number: 20070202887Abstract: The subject disclosure pertains to systems and methods for determining locations of mobile devices. In particular, a set of regions is defined based upon the relative strength of signals received from one or more base stations within the region. Each region has associated location information (e.g., latitude and longitude). The location of a mobile device can be determined by analyzing the strength of received signals, identifying base stations and generating an ordered list of base stations based upon signal strength. The ordered list can be compared to the set of regions to determine the region in which the mobile device is located. The location information for the retrieved region can be used to estimate the location of the mobile device.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2006Publication date: August 30, 2007Applicant: MICROSOFT CORPORATIONInventors: Scott Counts, John Krumm, Jordan Schwartz, Steve Glenner

Publication number: 20060224997Abstract: The present subject matter describes a graphical web browser toolbar the stores visual representations of user-selected web pages. A saved page is included in the toolbar as a tile that shows a thumbnail image of at least a portion of the page. A user may customize the thumbnail image by zooming onto an area of the page. The user selects a tile from the toolbar to show an enlarged version of the thumbnail image with data from the web page, such as a link to the web page. A comments section allows a user to enter comments related to the web page into the tile. Tiles may be arranged according to groups as configured by the user. The toolbar may be stored and transmitted to a remote location. Using the described techniques, a web shopper can save images in a graphical toolbar and send items saved therein to an acquaintance.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2005Publication date: October 5, 2006Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Curtis Wong, Steve Glenner, Steven Drucker

Publication number: 20060148500Abstract: The presently described subject matter allows the user to interactively browse a collection of electronic files, such as a digital photo collection, remotely using a mobile telephone. Files from the collection of electronic files can be directed from the mobile telephone to be sent to a remote display device, where the file can be displayed. Also, a user can record voice and text annotations from the mobile phone to preserve with an electronic file, and which is transported along with the file when it is displayed on a remote display device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2005Publication date: July 6, 2006Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Steve Glenner, Curtis Wong

Publication number: 20060047584Abstract: A system and method for presenting images and related items to a user. A digital image from a data store is assessed, and a portion of the image is defined as a region of interest. Properties are associated with this defined region, and these properties are utilized to infer relationships between the region of interest and related items in the data store. Optionally, a user input indicating a desire to view related content may be received and such content may be presented to the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2004Publication date: March 2, 2006Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Alexander Vaschillo, Bradley Gibson, Christopher Evans, John Platt, Nathaniel Ballou, Paul Hellyar, Scott Dart, Steve Glenner

Publication number: 20050063083Abstract: In an Item-based system, Images (e.g., JPEG, TIFF, bitmap, and so on) are treated as core platform objects (“Image Items” or, more simply, “Images”) and exist in an “Image Schema” that provides an extensible representation of an Image in the system-that is, the characteristics of an Image and how that Image relates to other Items (including but not limited to other Images) in the system. To this end, the Image Schema defines the properties, behaviors, and relationships for Images in the system, and the Schema also enforces rules about Images, for example, what data specific Images must contain, what data specific Images may optionally contain, how specific Images can be extended, and so on and so forth.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2003Publication date: March 24, 2005Inventors: Scott Dart, Bradley Gibson, Christopher Evans, Paul Hellyar, Alexander Vaschillo, John Platt, Steve Glenner, Nathaniel Ballou
