Publication number: 20070035117Abstract: A steering system of a vehicle is provided that includes a steering gear assembly including a tubular housing coupled to the vehicle. A pre-load compliant mounting bracket is coupled to the tubular housing and mounted to the vehicle for laterally placing the steering gear assembly into a pre-loaded state. A compliant mounting bracket is coupled to the tubular housing and mounted to the vehicle for limiting the steering gear assembly from laterally displacing relative to the vehicle beyond a predetermined distance. The pre-load compliant mounting bracket is compliant to the lateral displacement of the steering gear assembly for producing an understeer condition when a steering force above a predetermined steering force threshold is applied to the vehicle and is non-compliant when a steering force below the predetermined steering force threshold is applied to the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2005Publication date: February 15, 2007Inventor: Steve Green

The actuator includes a first rack and a second rack, and a drive pinion that is in operative engagement with the first and second racks. Substantially linear movement of the first and second racks in opposite directions causes rotational movement of the drive pinion. The assembly also includes a locking mechanism wherein the locking mechanism prevents rotation of the drive pinion and linear movement of the racks.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2004Publication date: June 1, 2006Inventor: Steve Green

Publication number: 20050146098Abstract: An Active Roll Control System for a motor vehicle that utilizes small valves to control large flows. Flow is supplied by a hydraulic pump which is powered in some fashion by the motor vehicle. Flow is directed to the actuators by a three-position-four-way valve that is controlled by two pairs of small ABS style solenoid valves. This allows for a minimum of power to be supplied by the vehicle to operate the system. Also, this valve arrangement allows a desirable failure mode whereby hydraulic fluid is locked into the hydraulic actuators, there by locking in the anti-roll bar in case of a system failure.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2004Publication date: July 7, 2005Inventors: Steve Green, Greg Campau, Harry Hunnicutt
