Abstract: A method and apparatus for dispersion compensation which provides a specified, well-controlled, wavelength-dependent optical path length in a laser or other optical system. A reflection grism-like device with an angled output interface is designed to simultaneously provide negative GVD and negative TOD, and therefore can be used to compensate for material dispersion. These gratings are very efficient due to their near-Littrow configuration and can be used over a broad spectral range, which is particularly useful in ultra-short-pulse applications.
