  • Patent number: 6750578
Abstract: A rotating machine is provided, including a rotor having a longitudinal axis with a connected fan and a stator surrounding said rotor. Front and rear frames rotatably support the rotor. At least one of said frames has a hub with a core with an opening for receiving a bearing mounting the rotor with said hub. The hub has an opening and ribs generally radially connecting the core with an outer rim of said hub. The ribs have a cross-sectional area being generally tilted with respect to a line extending generally parallel with the axis of said rotor.

  • Patent number: 6727612
Abstract: A plastic fastener is disclosed. The fastener may be employed in a vehicle generator. The fastener has a plastic body extending through an aperture of a first component and through an aperture of a second component. The body has a first distal head that retainingly abuts the opening of the aperture of the first component. The plastic body also has a second distal head that retainingly abuts the opening of the aperture of the second component. The configuration of the body secures the first component to the second component. The invention further provides a method of fastening components of a vehicular generator. A plastic body with first and second studs is over molded about a first generator component. At least one stud may be extended through an aperture of a second generator component. The studs are then formed into distal heads to secure the first component to the second component.

  • Publication number: 20030071528
Abstract: A through-bolt for use with an AC generator has a housing including a drive-end portion and a mounting-end portion. A stator is mountable between the drive-end portions. A rotor is mounted for rotation within the housing. One of the end portions includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced ears having first apertures therein and the other end portion includes a corresponding plurality of circumferentially spaced ears having threaded apertures therein. The through-bolt is inserted through one of the first apertures and received in one of the threaded apertures to bolt the housing ends together against the stator. The through-bolt is subject to bending stress since it does not operate on a solid stack up, regardless of alignment. The through-bolt comprises a head portion, an elongated shank portion, and a threaded portion extending from the elongated shank portion.

  • Patent number: 6369471
Abstract: An SRE fan has a hub, a carrier extending outwardly of the hub and a plurality of vanes on a first side of the carrier. The carrier has a second side opposite the first side that is configured to contact an engagement surface of a rotor segment. Channels are provided on the second side of the carrier. Rotor coil leads are surrounded by respective compressible insulated sleeves and are each routed through respective channels. The geometry of the channels is adapted to cooperate with the engagement surface of the rotor to enclose the channels and establish a uniform channel depth. The depth is selected to be less than an uncompressed diameter of the sleeves so as to provide a measure of compression when the fan contacts the rotor, holding the leads in place.
