  • Patent number: 10389783
Abstract: An adaptive streaming server, a method, and a system are described herein that create a content stream to be delivered to one or more clients by segmenting the content into data structures which are stored in random access memory (volatile storage) rather than segmenting the content into segment files which are stored on a disk or database (non-volatile storage).

  • Patent number: 10360486
Abstract: A radio tag comprising a first radio and a second radio and a method for providing a communications service are disclosed. For example, the method comprises entering, by a processor of the radio tag, an active state of the radio tag and activating the second radio when a wake-up signal is received, where the second radio draws power from a power source, transmitting, by the processor of the radio tag, data to a device or receiving the data from the device when the radio tag is in the active state, and deactivating, by the processor of the radio tag, the second radio and entering an idle state when the wake-up signal is no longer being received, where only the first radio draws power from the power source for listening for the wake-up signal in the idle state.

  • Publication number: 20190176292
Abstract: A method of customizing an ice blade to a user having the steps of measuring ice blade with, for example, a 3D scanner, to establish an initial calibration measurement set for the blade, and having the user use the blade on an ice surface. The blade may then be re-measured to detect wear patterns. The blade may then be customized in shape or sharpening based on the measured wear. In another embodiment the wear is used to provide function feedback to the user. In another embodiment, the user is biometrically evaluated, a preferred blade shape is determined based on the biometric evaluation and the fit of the preferred shape may be evaluated based on wear created of said blade when in use.

  • Publication number: 20190166550
Abstract: During a communication technique, an access point provides a message that includes one or more public land mobile network identifiers of one or more cellular-telephone networks that are supported by the access point. Then, an electronic device, which received the message, provides a candidate list specifying one or more access points that support communication with a cellular telephone network to a radio node that is associated with this cellular-telephone network. By communicating with a wireless-local-area-network (WLAN) controller, the radio node validates the one or more access points, and selects a target access point based on performance feedback from the WLAN controller. Next, the radio node instructs the electronic device to associate with the target access point. Moreover, the radio node and the target access point establish a secure-communication pathway, which allows the radio node to communicate data to the electronic device via the access point using an LTE Wi-Fi aggregation protocol.

  • Patent number: 10285184
Abstract: An electronic device iteratively determines an optimal transmit antenna radiation pattern and an optimal receive antenna radiation pattern based on a feedback process with a second electronic device. First, the electronic device transmits outgoing messages to the second electronic device using a set of transmit antenna radiation patterns having different transmit spatial orientations. Based on throughput feedback from the second electronic device, the electronic device selects the optimal transmit antenna radiation pattern. Then, based on throughputs for incoming messages from the second electronic device that were received using a set of receive antenna radiation patterns having different receive spatial orientations, the electronic device selects the optimal receive antenna radiation pattern. Note that the transmit antenna radiation pattern and the receive antenna radiation pattern may reduce or eliminate interference between the electronic device and the second electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20190086987
Abstract: To eliminate the adverse effects of power swings in a large scale computing system during the life cycle of an application or job, control of several operating characteristics for the collective group of processors is provided. By providing certain levels of coordination for the many processors utilized in large scale computing systems, significant and abrupt changes in power needs can be avoided. In certain circumstances, this may involve limiting the transition between several C-States of the processors involved and the overall power transitions for a large scale system are not detrimental and do not create issues for the data center or local power utility. Some cases will require stepped transitions between C-States, while other cases will include both stepped and modulated transitions. Other cases will incorporate random wait times at the various transitions in order to spread the power consumption involved.

  • Publication number: 20180227835
Abstract: A communication technique for establishing communication among an access point, an electronic device, and a radio node in a cellular-telephone network is described. In this communication technique, the electronic device is pre-provisioned by the radio node with an identifier of the cellular-telephone network. Moreover, the access point may advertise support for one or more LWA protocols in beacons. In response to a query from the electronic device, the access point may provide identifiers of the one or more cellular-telephone networks supported by the access point. If one of these identifiers matches the identifier, the electronic device may associate with the access point. Then, the access point may receive LWA traffic from the radio node and may forward the LWA traffic to the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 10045364
Abstract: An electronic device modifies a schedule of communication frequencies (such as an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access schedule) by changing the times when subcarriers are used for communication with a set of electronic devices in order to cluster subsets of the set of electronic devices. This clustering may leave the throughput associated with the communication at least approximately unchanged. Then, the electronic device selects, for the subsets, transmit antenna radiation patterns and receive antenna radiation patterns in order to increase the throughputs during transmission and/or receiving.

  • Publication number: 20180083949
Abstract: In order to leverage an enterprise-hosted network (EHN) associated with an entity, a communication technique may dynamically customize an application on a portable electronic device. In particular, the portable electronic device may discover and then may connect to the EHN using a quarantine zone that restricts access to the EHN. After providing valid credentials to establish a level of trust with the EHN, the portable electronic device may receive a request for authentication and authorization information. In response to the request, the portable electronic device may provide a credential to the EHN. Next, the portable electronic device may receive provisioning information that customizes the application on the portable electronic device to a venue associated with the entity. The provisioning information may include a connection setting associated with the application on the portable electronic device, which allows the portable electronic device to connect to the EHN outside of the quarantine zone.
