Publication number: 20230229658Abstract: A central node can: receive a query comprising at least one parameter comprising a time range of a dataset stored in a cloud storage system; transmit one or more of the query parameters comprising the time range to a metadata service; receive from the metadata service a list of files related to the query; and assign to each processing node of a plurality of processing nodes a subset of the files. Each processing node can: determine that the subset is not stored on a cache; retrieving the subset not stored on the cache from the cloud storage system; store the retrieved subset in a local memory; scan the subset stored in the local memory for data matching the at least one parameter to generate a subset of query results; and concurrently copy using a separate thread from the scanning, the subset stored in the local memory to the cache.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 13, 2023Publication date: July 20, 2023Inventor: Steve Newman

Patent number: 10417319Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus, including computer program products, for real-time document sharing and editing. In one aspect, a method includes comparing a first user's and a second user's changes to a document, the document being edited by the first user and the second user concurrently; and notifying the first user of a conflicting change and content of any conflicting change to the document made by the first user but not made to the document because of the conflicting change. In another aspect, a method includes recording a saved position of a cursor of a user editing a client-side copy of a document; receiving an update to the document and generating an updated client-side copy of the document; using the saved position to determine an updated position of the cursor; and displaying to the user the updated client-side copy of the document with the cursor displayed at the updated position.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2018Date of Patent: September 17, 2019Assignee: GOOGLE LLCInventors: Steve Newman, Sam Schillace, Claudia Carpenter

Publication number: 20180054350Abstract: Disclosed is an interoperability gateway system that provides backup connection between a dispatch center and a Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system in the event the dispatch center is disconnected from the LMR system. In general, this may be accomplished by providing an RF link between the disconnected site and the interoperability gateway via a controller, or interoperability site network interface (ISNI), that is activated when the dispatch center is disconnected from the LMR system. The interoperability gateway provides the backup connection by allocating a control station for each channel available at the disconnected LMR system. When compared to conventional dispatch console backup schemes, the disclosed interoperability gateway system greatly reduces the equipment needed to provide dispatch console backup, thereby decreasing equipment and operation costs, and simplifying operation by providing a solution that is virtually transparent to the dispatcher.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 17, 2017Publication date: February 22, 2018Applicant: E.F. Patent number: 6189018Abstract: Disclosed is a method for generating universal resource locator links in a graphical user interface based HTML file. The method includes the operations of selecting one of a picture object and text contained within the graphical user interface based HTML file. Once one of the picture object and text are selected, a short-cut universal resource locator icon is selected. Upon selecting the short-cut universal resource locator icon, a nested menu is displayed. Preferably, the nested menu contains a list of most recently used universal resource locators, and a list of open HTML files. Next, one of the universal resource locators is selected from the list of most recently used universal resource locators and the open HTML file from the list of open HTML files.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1999Date of Patent: February 13, 2001Assignee: Apple Computer, Inc.Inventors: Steve Newman, Sam Schillace

Patent number: 5570143Abstract: A toric lens for axis mislocation correction has optical topography on at least one surface of the lens which induces a depth of field effect on the eye and enables the principle meridians of power on the lens to align with those on the eye of the wearer such that it compensates for mislocation error if the lens mislocates 1 degree or more. The lens is thin enough to allow sufficient oxygen transmission therethrough to provide satisfactory morphology of the eye of a wearer. The optical topography which induces the depth of field effect may comprise either aspheric topography, spline curve functions, diffractive optics using eschelets, ion impingement or bi-refringence optics.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1994Date of Patent: October 29, 1996Assignee: Capricornia Contact Lens Pty. Ltd.Inventor: Steve Newman

Patent number: 5500695Abstract: An improved contact lens (1) having an optic zone (4) and a radial planar zone (5) such that the radial planar zone has an array of contours which are defined by a waveform or waveforms (2, 3) comprising crests and troughs on the back and/or front surface of the lens. The waveform(s) provide(s) means to enable proper location and orientation of the lens on the eye of a wearer by interaction between the lens, the eye and an eyelid and facilitating increased gas transmission through the lens.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 1994Date of Patent: March 19, 1996Inventor: Steve Newman

Patent number: 5295235Abstract: The polygon engine of this invention is a technique for rendering a computer graphic display using a compressed data format. A display list of objects for the next frame is converted into a list of spans for each horizontal line of the display. The polygon engine converts the list of spans for all objects into a set of run-length-encoded bit map lines for the next frame. Conflicts between overlapping objects are resolved based upon a depth value of the corresponding objects. Any remaining unspecified pixels are filled with a predetermined background color. Lastly, the polygon engine updates the frame buffer to correspond to this set of run-length-encoded bit map lines, preferably by comparing run-length-encoded bit map lines for the next frame with those for the current frame and writing only changed pixels into the frame buffer. An alternative embodiment of this invention uses compressed data in the form of trapezoids whose parallel sides are horizontal.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1992Date of Patent: March 15, 1994Inventor: Steve Newman

Patent number: 5125728Abstract: The invention is incorporated to a soft contact lens. This lens has a concave posterior surface for fitting to the eye of a wearer, and a convex anterior surface for exposure from the eye of a wearer. The soft contact lens contains a correction for the eye having a component of astigmatism. A novel posterior surface has a central refractive segment sufficient in dimension to afford pupil coverage and therefore correction to the vision of the eye of the wearer. This central portion is configured for imparting a component of astigmatic correction of the eye of a wearer in a first central zone containing the refractive segment. When the contact lens is worn, this first central zone is juxtaposed to the central portion of the eye of the wearer. The posterior surface at the first central zone is surrounded by a posterior zone for fititng the soft contact lens to the eye of the wearer.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1990Date of Patent: June 30, 1992Assignee: Igel International LimitedInventors: Steve Newman, Don Noack
