  • Patent number: 5303295
Abstract: A program control system for controlling access to premium programming and/or premium channels comprises a program control apparatus which may incorporate one or more subscriber modules. The subscriber modules may use one or more different types of program control technologies to provide different subscribers with different levels of access as well as different levels of security. One subscriber module may comprise a program control apparatus for interdicting premium programming signals transmitted "in the clear". Other modules may comprise positive or negative traps or bandstop filters. The program control apparatus allows a cable television provider to apply new or different program control technologies on a subscriber by subscriber basis.

  • Patent number: 4963966
Abstract: Equipment for use in CATV lines and a system for distribution of CATV signals and for power to operate CATV line equipment having active devices which require power is described. The system distributes CATV signals to subscribers who have ordered different levels of service (basic service without premium channels or different groups of premium channels). Housings are located in proximity to the premises of both actual subscribers and potential subscribers, and have like covers which contain tapping electronics (a directional coupler, line equalizers and power bypassing circuit). The cover has ports at opposite ends and an additional port at one end. The tapping electronics is located on a seizure board having seizure blocks spaced from each other along one edge of the board. The seizure board is rotatable ninety degrees (90.degree.

  • Patent number: 4792848
Abstract: A cable television system is disclosed wherein a subscriber can select a program to view at the last minute and pay for only those programs that are viewed. The system includes a plurality of remote taps which are operative to receive the television signals from a headend office and either supply or deny certain of those signals to a subscriber at his request. The taps will transmit billing information regarding the programs supplied to the subscriber along the cable. At the end of the cable or at other predetermined locations the signals from a plurality of taps are collected and either stored or recovered by the headend. The transmission can be accomplished using a modem or a dedicated wire.

  • Patent number: 4590552
Abstract: A digital processing device implemented on a single semiconductor substrate includes an nonvolatile memory for the storage of data and instructions that define operations on the data. The memory is connected to an inhibit logic interface which is in turn connected to an information bus. The information bus is connected to a central processor that performs the operations on data. An external interface is also connected to the information bus to provide information on the information bus to external devices. At least one security bit is provided for designating security status of information stored in the memory. Address logic is connected to the information bus to determine when information is being accessed from the memory. Security control circuitry is also provided and is connected to the central processing unit, the address logic, to determine when an instruction is being fetched by the central processing unit and if the instruction is being fetched from the memory.
