    Abstract: A currency distribution system and method. In accordance with the invention, a first transaction is facilitated by which currency is transferred electronically between a first entity and a second entity, and whereby a first balance of currency is maintained by said second entity. A second transaction is facilitated by which at least a portion of the first balance of currency is transferred electronically between the second entity and a third entity. In particular, the second transaction is facilitated by a processor that includes code for ascertaining data with respect to the third entity, the data pertaining to goods or services unrelated to the currency, and providing a qualification in response thereto. A second processor included for enabling the second transaction in response to the qualification. A database is employed and a query is made to determine the qualification for the second transaction.

An apparatus embodiment includes a first surface having a plurality of first apertures therethrough, a labyrinth configured to include a plurality of passageways each of which is fluidly coupled to at least one of the first apertures, and a second surface having a plurality of second apertures therethrough each of which is fluidly coupled to the vacuum source and at least one of the passageways thereby establishing an airflow from the first apertures, through the passageways, and out the second apertures. The vacuum platen also includes at least one receptacle in each of the passageways, each receptacle configured to collect debris from the airflow as it travels through the labyrinth.

    Abstract: A printing system includes multiple print units which each have one or more printbar assemblies to transfer an imaging medium onto a print media. An individual print unit can include a heater system to dry the imaging medium transferred onto the print media by the one or more printbar assemblies of the individual print unit. For a printing system with two print units, a first percentage of the imaging medium is transferred onto the print media, the print media is advanced beyond the one or more printbar assemblies of the first print unit, and a first heater system dries the first percentage of the imaging medium. A second percentage of the imaging medium is then transferred onto the print media, the print media is advanced beyond the one or more printbar assemblies of the second print unit, and a second heater system dries the second percentage of the imaging medium.

    Abstract: A printer with a media transport has a rigid, air-transmissive platen. A movable air-transmissive flexible web overlies the platen and moves along a feed axis. A suction device communicates with the platen to draw air through the web and through the platen so that a sheet of media carried on the web is biased toward the platen. A manifold underlies the platen and has a number of separate chambers open to the platen, so that the suction device is connected to each of the chambers. A controller operates to selectably prevent communication between the suction device and at least some of the chambers.

    Abstract: When the data rate of incoming data is less than the print speed, there can be pauses in the print job. During a pause, wet ink may cause cockle growth at a portion of the media sheet within the print zone. To reduce such cockle growth a reduced number of nozzles are used when the data rate is less than the print speed. In particular the print swath is reduced. Only a downstream subset of nozzles are used, in effect shortening the portion of the media sheet receiving ink. The wet portion of the media sheet then is closer to the downstream edge of the print zone and soon away from the printhead. A guide shim also is advanced to maintain a flat media sheet near the active nozzles.

A low pressure zone is generated along one surface of the print medium to hold a portion of the print medium substantially flat for a period of time during and after the liquid ink is applied to the print medium.
