    Abstract: Audio data is captured, then filtered to extract text data and print commands. The audio data is captured by sensing the audio data, generating an analog audio data signal in response to the sensed audio data, and digitizing the analog audio data signal into captured audio data. The text data is converted to electronic text. The electronic text is accumulated in a text buffer. Audio data is captured and filtered to extract text data and print comments until a print command is extracted from the audio data. When a print command is extracted from the audio data, the accumulated electronic text is translated into a rendered document. The electronic text is either translated alone or with a form template. The rendered document is printed and the text buffer is purged.

Upon receipt of the e-mail message, the client processor recognizes the executable installation program and, upon installation thereof, to utilize the network printer.

    Abstract: A computer peripheral device is prevented from being in power save mode by either forcing the peripheral device out of power save mode or preventing the peripheral device from entering power save mode. A timing mechanism tracks time. The timing mechanism either tracks the time of day, the day of the week, an elapsed time, or a combination of these times. The time tracked by the timing mechanism is compared to a pre-set condition stored in a storage device. If the time meets the pre-set condition, the computer peripheral device is prevented from being in power save mode. The computer peripheral device is prevented from being in power save mode by either transmitting a job to the peripheral device for processing, accessing the control means of the peripheral device and terminating the power save mode, or temporarily disabling the power save mode for the peripheral device.

    Abstract: When a first application program raises an error condition, a context switch, in one embodiment, transfers control to one of several Help programs, as selected automatically without user or system operator intervention. Such a first application program operates on a computer system that includes a file system, a data structure in memory, and a processor that executes in sequence an operating system, the first application program, a constructor, and a second application program, for example, a Help program. For each candidate Help program, the constructor looks for prerequisite files in the file system. If a candidate Help program's prerequisites are met, the constructor sets a link value in the data structure that directs a subsequent call from the first application program to the Help program selected by the constructor.

    Abstract: This invention allows a selected type of network device or resource (e.g. printers) to be discovered on a subnetwork and on remote subnetworks on a network. A broadcast message is sent requesting a response from each host on the subnetwork with a file having a listing of the device. Upon receipt of responses, a STIFLE message is transmitted to the host, thereby allowing subsequent broadcast messages to generate responses from remaining hosts. The responding hosts are then queried in order to obtain address information of potential devices on the subnetwork. A corresponding procedure obtains addresses of agents on remote subnetworks. The agents are then queried in order to obtain addresses of servers containing lists of potential devices on the remote subnetworks.
