Abstract: Disclosed is a novel security benefits product that provides customizable benefits to the purchaser for a variety of different triggering conditions. The product of the present invention may be sold to an individual or a group. The product contains a feature that allows a purchaser to modify and/or vary his or her coverage related to one or more serious health events, such as disability, accident, illness, or death. Additionally, a conversion feature is provided, which allows the insured individual who purchased the product through a third party to maintain the product of the present invention even after the individual is no longer affiliated with the third party.

Abstract: Disclosed are certain peptide linkers for conjugating drugs to ligands, and the resulting drug-linker-ligand molecules and compositions thereof. The conjugated molecules useful for the targeted delivery of drugs to the desired cells, and allow for the intracellular release of the drug in cases where the targeted antigen is internalized via the trans Golgi network and not the lysosomal pathway.

Abstract: A programmable electronic device (10) stores a number of cipher-text software modules (14) to which access is granted after evaluating a user's token (55, 80, 82), a software-restriction class (58) for a requested software module (14), and/or a currently active access-control model (60). Access-control models (60) span a range from uncontrolled to highly restrictive. Models (60) become automatically activated and deactivated as users are added to and deleted from the device (10). A virtual internal user proxy that does not require users to provide tokens (80, 82) is used to enable access to modules (16) classified in a global software-restriction class (62) or when an uncontrolled-access-control model (68) is active. Both licensed modules (76) and unlicensed modules (18,78) may be loaded in the device (10). However, no keys are provided to enable decryption of unlicensed modules (18,78).

Abstract: A voice user interface for accessing data is provided. This method and system receives a set of variables from a voice recognizer processing a voice request for information in a backend system; processes an integration method using the set of variables returned from the recognizer and an unstructured grammar based on entries in the database fields of a backend system; requests backend data from the backend system using the integration method and the set of variables as applied to the unstructured grammar; and receives backend data from the backend system responsive to the integration method used to request the backend data. Processes are described that add data associated with a database to increase the accuracy of interacting with the database through a voice interface and create the unstructured grammar for improved voice recognition capabilities.

Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method of counteracting gas ingestion in a hydrodynamic bearing of a spindle motor in a data storage device comprises waiting for activity of a host connected with the data storage device to become idle. When the activity of the host becomes idle, a determination is made whether to release gas from a fluid of the hydrodynamic bearing of the spindle motor. Responsive to determining to release gas from a fluid of the hydrodynamic bearing of the spindle motor a motor spin down routine for the spindle motor is performed.

Abstract: Apparatus for collecting light from an LED and transmitting it in a near-uniform column incudes a conical reflector about the base of the LED for collecting light emitted to the sides of the LED, and a lens specially designed to focus the collected light into a near-collimated beam. The lens has opposite, substantially elliptical surfaces to collect and collimate the rapidly diverging light from the LED and the reflector, and each lens surface includes a flat spot to prevent shadows from forming, thereby producing a more uniform beam.

The assembly may be economically manufactured by co-injection molding or insert molding of the thermally expansible material around the carrier. The marginal rim of the carrier may include base wall and a support flange for receiving the thermally expansible material thereon.

Abstract: A method and system for integrating an application executing on a backend system with a mobile device that communicates over a network with the application. The integration includes retrieving from a storage area a method corresponding to a function in the application on the backend system, invoking the method corresponding to the function in the application and creating an interface to the application on the backend system. Information received from the application corresponds to the information requested by the mobile device. This information from the application is transformed to a format suitable for presentation on a mobile device by a presentation server and assisted by a hierarchical universal device library description of mobile devices and browsers.

Abstract: A distributed data processing system has a deadlock detection mechanism for detecting a potential deadlock involving a cyclic chain of dependencies between transactions. The system also has a deadlock doublechecking mechanism for confirming that all the dependencies in the potential deadlock chain are co-existent. If deadlock is confirmed, action is taken to break the deadlock. The deadlock doublechecking mechanism operates by marking the dependencies in the cyclic chain with a unique existence number, and subsequently checking that the existence number of each dependency in the cyclic chain is unchanged. Marking the dependencies may be performed by propagating a probe message, containing a unique probe existence number, and associating this probe existence number with each dependency visited by said marker probe.
