  • Patent number: 7262934
Abstract: A limit stop filter support apparatus for use in controlling fluidic currents and limiting movement of an actuator within a housing, such as in a data storage device. First and second filter retention members extend from a filter support base to confine opposing ends of a filter used to filter fluidic currents within the housing, and a cantilevered limit stop extends from the base to contactingly limit movement of an actuator moveable within the housing. The limit stop preferably comprises a spring member supporting a latch member, the latch member selectively confining the actuator in a parked position. The first and second retention members each preferably include a shroud surface adjacent an outer peripheral edge of a rotatable storage medium to direct the fluidic currents established by rotation of the medium.

  • Patent number: 6826019
Abstract: An actuator stop for a disc drive having a compliant suspension member joining a rigidly supported stop pin and a noncompliant contact member. The contact member is characterized by a relatively greater compressive yield strength than that of the suspension member so that in response to an abutting engagement with the actuator. The contact member is displaceable relative to the stop pin in relation to the deflection characteristics of the suspension member.

  • Patent number: 6650507
Abstract: An actuator with a discrete molded in bumper stop for a disc drive. The actuator has an actuator body moveably supported within the disc drive. A discrete bumper stop has an attaching portion disposed adjacent the actuator body, and an extended portion projecting from the attaching portion engageable with a reference surface of the disc drive at a selected position of the actuator. An overmold member connects the attaching portion of the bumper stop to the actuator body.

  • Patent number: 6091576
Abstract: A ramp loading apparatus for a disc drive having a disc with a data recording surface and a controllably moveable actuator arm supporting a read/write head adjacent the data recording surface, the ramp loading apparatus having a body forming a loading ramp and a ramp stiffener attached thereto. The body has a loading tab channel associated with the lift ramp so that the read/write head can be lifted from the data recording surface of the disc during its non-operating mode. Radially extending disc snubbers extend over the outer perimeter of the disc to reduce deflection of the disc caused by the application of mechanical shock to the disc drive.

  • Patent number: 6078498
Abstract: A low sway space isolation chassis adapter is disclosed to facilitate the mounting of a disc drive in a mounting environment, the disc drive having a base deck to which a printed circuit board is affixed. A mounting plate is secured to mounting features of the base deck so that the printed circuit board is disposed between the mounting plate and the base deck. The mounting plate includes a central web to which a damping layer is affixed. A chassis plate is disposed between the mounting plate and the printed circuit board, the chassis plate having a central web which is affixed to the damping layer and mounting flanges facilitating the mounting of the disc drive. The damping layer and the central webs of the chassis plate and mounting plate form a laminate which provides constraint layer damping for the disc drive.
