  • Publication number: 20120005063
Abstract: Using a feed backbone computer network, enables connection of counterparty customers in disparate Financial Information Exchange (FIX) networks, across IP network boundaries. The feed backbone network links consumer, database, management, and proxy computer systems with a FIX backbone computer network in turn connected to trading extranets via access centers. Proxy computer systems balance their shared message processing load, log message traffic, manage operational sessions, and collect and present aggregated feed information to client users, whether connected locally or to the trading extranets. A software proxy acts as a “middleman” between the two customer endpoints. Copies selected FIX messages to a multicast backbone for aggregation in a standard format. The entire network is centrally configurable and supports realtime operational status.

  • Patent number: 8045251
Abstract: Techniques for producing higher fidelity interferometer measurements by reducing sensitivity to spurious sources include reducing the coherence length of an electromagnetic beam. In addition, multiple surfaces within an optical system may be measured by electronically tuning the position of a coherence plane along the optical paths of an interferometer. A phase modulator is used in conjunction with a long coherence length electromagnetic source to generate beams for each leg of an interferometer. Providing a controlled broadband RF signal to the phase modulator increases the bandwidth of the beam and thereby reduces the coherence length of the beam. This reduces the spurious contributions to the output interference fringes from undesired surfaces along the beam path.

  • Patent number: 8041806
Abstract: Targeted electronic content delivery control systems and methods are disclosed. All communication traffic exchanged with a communication network subscriber over an access communication link that enables the subscriber to access electronic content is monitored, and behavioral information indicative of behavior of the subscriber in using the access communication link is collected from the monitored communication traffic. A behavioral profile of the subscriber is maintained based on the behavioral information. Delivery of targeted electronic content to the subscriber for presentation with electronic content accessed by the subscriber is controlled based on the behavioral profile.

  • Patent number: 8036213
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating connecting a switch to a network to improve network performance. In an illustrative embodiment, the system includes a first module for determining when the switch is initially connected to a network and providing a signal in response thereto. A second module selectively forms adjacencies with peers of the switch in response to the signal and based on one or more predetermined parameters. In a more specific embodiment, the switch is a router or Layer-3 (L3) switch. The one or more predetermined parameters include a load factor, values pertaining to capabilities of a processor included in the router, bandwidth capabilities of the interface and/or the router, internal router queue counts, and so on. The router employs a routing protocol such as Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP). The second module throttles and adjacency-formation rate based on the predetermined parameters.

  • Patent number: 8025545
Abstract: A system and method is provided for substantially synchronizing sound and smoke in a model train or other model vehicle. In one embodiment of the present invention, a sensor is configured to send a signal periodically to a smoke generating device and a controller, wherein the signal is used by the smoke generating device to produce a particular quantity of smoke. The controller is then configured to receive a signal from a motor, wherein the signal includes information that can be used to identify a rotational position of the motor, or a rotational position of an axle in communication with the motor. The controller then uses the signal from the sensor and the signal from the motor to estimate a transmission lime of a next signal from the sensor, wherein the next signal is used by the smoke generating device to produce a next production of smoke.

  • Patent number: 7975256
Abstract: Metadata describing common Java classes is extracted and utilized to optimize a Java program's performance based on the code requirements of the application. Data mining techniques extract metadata and other information about different sets of JVM byte code written by multiple vendors to determine the design choices and optimizations made by each vendor in implementing their JVM. Then, byte code in a Java application being programmed is analyzed in comparison to each vendor's JVM metadata and information. Based upon the application's requirements (for example footprint, performance, etc.), recommendations are generated that yield a newly compiled rt.jar that combines the best practices of each vendor together or recommends a particular vendor's standard JVM that is best suited for the application.
