    Abstract: Carbon dioxide may be used to adjust the electrical properties of papermaking compositions. Such papermaking compositions may contain a colloid phase, an aqueous phase, and optionally, pulp fibers. Examples of electrical properties whose values may be adjusted include zeta potential, electrical charge demand, conductivity, and streaming potential. The carbon dioxide may be introduced at many different points in a papermaking process, including calcium carbonate slurry feeds, pulp fiber slurries, diluted pulp fibers slurries, broke, and whitewater. When a value or range of values based upon an electrical property is predetermined, such as an optimal value or range, introduction of carbon dioxide may be used to adjust the value such that it is closer to the predetermined value.

    Abstract: The wheelchair wheel cover includes a cover hub, radially extending disk and an integral radially outer wall that extends axially from the disk to a cover inboard edge. The cover hub includes a bore that receives a fixed bolt. The bolt passes through a wheel bearing with an inner race and an outer race. The bolt also passes through the frame of a wheelchair and screws into a nut. When the wheel cover is non-rotating, tightening the nut forces the cover hub against an inboard washer, forces the inboard washer against the inner race and forces the inner race against the frame. If the wheel cover is to rotate a thrust bearing is provided between the head of the axle bolt and the cover hub and the inboard washer is forced toward the outer race. The disk can be flat or sculptured and protects hands and fingers.

The precipitated calcium carbonate is deposited on the cellulosic fibers and is present in a variety of sizes, shapes and morphologies, and is present in the cellulosic products on all physical features of the cellulosic fibers. At least a portion of the precipitated calcium carbonate is present with the fiber based on interaction with one or more chemicals used in papermaking.

    Abstract: Methods of bleaching cellulose pulp using chlorine dioxide and ozone in one and the same single stage of a bleaching sequence having a plurality of stages are presented. In its broadest embodiment the method comprises controlling a ratio of chlorine dioxide to ozone within a single stage of a first bleaching sequence in a range effective to achieve strength characteristics of a final paper elaborated from the first bleaching sequence at least as great as strength characteristics when compared to a control bleaching sequence, the control bleaching sequence being the same in all respects as the first bleaching sequence except not employing ozone in a stage, and for essentially the same final brightness of pulp elaborated from the first and the control bleaching sequence. Cellulose pulps made using the methods of the invention are also described.
