  • Patent number: 8140982
Abstract: Systems and methods for allowing an administrator or program to select a region or set of avatars in a virtual universe grid for splitting into another, separate and distinct virtual universe grid. If a region is selected, all of the avatars and virtual universe resources associated with the region are locked, their data is retrieved, and another separate virtual universe grid is commanded to create and insert the avatars and resources in it. If avatars are selected, all of the resources, scripts, histories, and information regarding the selected avatars are retrieved, and the avatars are locked in the source universe. Then, another, separate virtual universe grid is commanded to create universe user identifiers for the avatars, and they are inserted into the separate VU grid. Cleanup includes deleting the region and/or avatars from the first (source) virtual universe grid.

  • Patent number: 8122225
Abstract: A “LUN Table” enables Logical Unit Number (LUN) mapping/masking within an Input/Output Virtualization IOV adapter included in a Serial Attached Small Computer System Interface (“SAS” or “Serial Attached SCSI”). A plurality of System Images (“SI”) share block storage through the SAS. The IOV adapter includes one or more Virtual Functions (VF), a Physical Function (PF), and a LUN Table within the PF. The VF allows each SI to communicate I/0 requests with a storage device through the PF. The LUN Table maps the I/0 requests to unique locations within the storage device. Each SI is isolated from all other SIs. Interference between each SI is avoided. A VIOS or a LUN mapping/masking SAN are not required. I/0 latency, processor overhead and storage cost are improved over prior LUN mapping/masking solutions.

  • Publication number: 20120041953
Abstract: A latent topic labels text mining system and method to mine and analyze the content of textual data. Embodiments of the system and method are particularly well suited for use on microblog data to help people identify posts they want to read and to find people that they want to follow. Embodiments of the system and method use a modified Labeled LDA technique (called an L+LDA technique) that analyzes content using a combination of labeled and latent topics. The resultant data is assigned labels one of four labels to generate a lower-dimensional representation of the data that the individual words in a microblog post. This learned topic representation is used to characterize, summarize, filter, find, suggest, and compare the content of microblog posts. Embodiments of the system and method also include visualization techniques such as a tag cloud visualization that is used to visualize microblogging data.

  • Publication number: 20110313364
Abstract: An autoinjector includes front and rear separable housing parts 10, 12. These are connected by a rotary coupling action such as by bayonet coupling and the relative rotation action turns a needle shield 20 from a locked position in which it is both locked against longitudinal movement and acts as a shutter obscuring the contents of the syringe to an open position where the contents of the syringe are visible and the shield portion is freed for longitudinal movement. Connecting and securing the rear portion 12 on the front portion 11 therefore unlocks the needle shield 20 for operation. On completion of an injection, uncoupling of the front and rear portions returns the needle shield 20 to its locked position so the front portion may be disposed of safely.

  • Publication number: 20110307422
Abstract: A multiple model data exploration system and method for running multiple machine-learning models simultaneously to understand and explore data. Embodiments of the system and method allow a user to gain a greater understanding of the data and to gain new insights into their data. Embodiments of the system and method also allow a user to interactively explore the problem and to navigate different views of data. Many different classifier training and evaluation experiments are run simultaneously and results are obtained. The results are aggregated and visualized across each of the experiments to determine and understand how each example is classified for each different classifier. These results then are summarized in a variety of ways to allow users to obtain a greater understanding of the data both in terms of the individual examples themselves and features associated with the data.

  • Publication number: 20110292072
Abstract: The pluggable web-based visualization technique described herein pertains to a method for providing pluggable web-based visualizations for applications. The method selects visualizations from the web to be embedded into a host application on a desktop computing device. The visualizations can be plugged in to a variety of host applications. This empowers end-users, application designers, and visualization designers by allowing greater reuse of existing code. Additionally, end-users do not have to wait for new revisions of existing applications to use the latest techniques. Designers of domain specific visualizations can work on just the visualization and have them incorporated into a variety of different host applications. Users can perform local processing and visualizations on their own machine, yet obtain new visualizations from the web where they can be updated more frequently and where special purpose visualizations are available.

  • Publication number: 20110289283
Abstract: A method begins by a processing module determining whether a memory device of a dispersed storage (DS) unit is unavailable to produce an unavailable memory device. The method continues with the processing module determining a methodology regarding DS encoded data stored in the unavailable memory device based on one or more dispersed storage network (DSN) conditions to produce a determined methodology when the memory device is unavailable. The method continues with the processing module initiating, in accordance with the determined methodology, a rebuilding function to rebuild the DS encoded data to produce rebuilt DS encoded data when the determined methodology includes a rebuilding component. The method continues with the processing module storing the rebuilt DS encoded data within available memory of the DS unit.
