  • Patent number: 8711898
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for communication between ultra-wideband (UWB) devices. In general, the UWB device may characterize the attenuation, and other characteristics of the communication environment. Using these characteristics the UWB device can adapt various communication parameters to improve the communication quality. The UWB device may use these characteristics to establish zones and sectors for communication with other UWB devices. Based on this zone and sector assignment the UWB device may select communication parameters for communication with other UWB devices. This Abstract is provided for the sole purpose of complying with the Abstract requirement rules that allow a reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the disclosure contained herein. This Abstract is submitted with the explicit understanding that it will not be used to interpret or to limit the scope or the meaning of the claims.

  • Patent number: 8347787
Abstract: A printhead subsystem is disclosed for selectively removing portions of a layer of dampening fluid disposed over an arbitrarily reimageable surface in a variable data lithographic system. The subsystem comprises a thermal printhead element disposed proximate the arbitrarily reimageable surface, and driving circuitry communicatively connected to the thermal printhead for selectively temporarily heating the thermal printhead to an elevated temperature. Portions of the dampening fluid layer proximate the thermal printhead are vaporized and driven off the arbitrarily reimageable surface by the thermal printhead when the thermal printhead is at the elevated temperature, to thereby form voids in the dampening fluid layer.

  • Patent number: 8301877
Abstract: A method and system for configuring a valid duration period for a digital certificate. The method includes assigning a positive numeric value for each certificate term. The positive numeric value assigned to each certificate term is representative of the valid duration period. The method continues by prompting a user of the client device to request one certificate term. The method may include transmitting the requested certificate term to a server. The certificate term requested is sent via a certificate request. The server is configured to convert the positive numeric value associated with the requested certificate term into a duration counter. The method may also include a certificate server receiving from the server, the certificate request including the duration counter. The certificate server is configured to digitally sign the certificate request.

  • Patent number: 7939803
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for detecting explosives by thermal imaging. The explosive material is subjected to a high energy wave which can be either a sound wave or an electromagnetic wave which will initiate a chemical reaction in the explosive material which chemical reaction will produce heat. The heat is then sensed by a thermal imaging device which will provide a signal to a computing device which will alert a user of the apparatus to the possibility of an explosive device being present.

  • Patent number: 7878141
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an airbag system that a user can deploy to reduce the chances of being buried in an avalanche or if buried, likely being buried near the surface, thereby improving the user's chances of surviving the experience. In one embodiment, the airbag system is comprised of an inflatable balloon, a pressure gas cylinder for holding a pressurized gas that is used in inflating the balloon, a valve that can be placed in a closed state to retain a pressurized gas in the pressure gas cylinder or an open state in which pressurized gas is released from the pressure gas cylinder. The system further comprises an ejector that operates to use pressurized gas received from the pressure gas cylinder and ambient air to inflate the balloon. Also part of the system is a flow restrictor that is located to receive pressurized gas from the pressure gas cylinder before the ejector receives the gas. A harness supports the noted elements of the system adjacent to an individual's body.

  • Patent number: 7805537
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for flooding link state packets or packet data units (LSP's) from a first node to one other LSP receiving node, where the LSP's are flooded in an order that is related to relative costs of various paths emanating from the first node. That is, the first node sends its own LSP first since the first node has no cost relative to itself. The first node then sends other LSP's that are associated with a plurality of other LSP sending nodes that have previously flooded their LSP's to the first node. These other LSP's are sent by the first node to the other LSP receiving node in an order related to the relative costs associated with the paths from the first node to each of the other LSP sending nodes which had previously sent the other LSP's to the first node.

  • Publication number: 20090291184
Abstract: The present invention comprises an improved extruder die assembly and method for using same to improve the quality of dimensional design aspects of extruded, complexly shaped, direct expanded food products. The improved system includes an improved die assembly comprising a first die and a second die having at least one orifice. A majority of the total pressure drop occurs in the first die to pre-expand the dough prior to the dough entering the second die. The orifices in the first die can be individually configured to obtain differing dough flow speeds resulting in a desired flow pattern. A plurality of extruded dough ropes formed at each orifice exit of the first die can meld together in the bore and exit the second die. Color or flavor can be added at the first die to enhance the food product.
