  • Patent number: 6918098
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for automatically generating test instructions for use in testing a microprocessor design. A configuration file includes a plurality of knobs which specify a probability distribution of a plurality of microprocessor instructions. A random code generator takes the configuration file as an input and generates test instructions which are distributed according to the probability distribution specified by the knobs. The test instructions are executed on the microprocessor design. The microprocessor behaviors that are exercised by the test instructions are measured and a fitness value is assigned to the configuration file using a fitness function. The configuration file and its fitness value are added to a pool of configuration files. A configuration file synthesizer uses a genetic algorithm to synthesize a new configuration file from the pool of existing configuration files.

  • Publication number: 20050149762
Abstract: A system and method for generating and authenticating a password to protect a computer system from unauthorized access. The characters of the password are placed in data packets by an access device. Prior to sending the packets, the device inserts predefined time intervals between each of the data packets. The value of the time intervals is retrieved from a sequence of time intervals that is shared between the access device and an authentication device. The authentication device determines whether the received set of password characters matches a stored set of password characters, measures the time intervals between the packets, and determines whether the measured time intervals match the predefined time intervals. The authentication device positively authenticates the access device only if both the characters and the time intervals match. Periodically, different time intervals from the sequence are inserted to change the password.

  • Publication number: 20050146718
Abstract: An optical trap and method for measuring both transverse and longitudinal forces on a trapped particle. Laser light sources generate first and second light beams that are focused to the trap region in a counter-propagating manner for trapping the particle. Detectors measure changes in power deflections of the light beams leaving the trap region, and changes in power concentrations of the light beams leaving the trap region. A processor calculates the transverse forces on the particle based upon the measured changes in the power deflections of the light beams, and calculates the longitudinal forces on the particle based upon the measured changes in the power concentrations of the light beams. A single beam optical trap and method are also disclosed, where the second optical beam is generated by a reflection of the first optical beam off of the trapped particle.

  • Publication number: 20050057482
Abstract: A multiple channel programmable gamma correction voltage generator including a resistor ladder, buffers, select logic, and a programmable non-volatile memory device. The memory provides select values indicative of one or more stored gamma correction values. The resistor ladder includes adjustable tap resistors distributed along the resistor ladder. The adjustable tap resistors provide multiple tap voltages distributed according to the gamma correction value. The buffers receive the tap voltages and provide gamma correction voltages. The select logic selects tap points of the adjustable tap resistors to select the tap voltages based on the select values stored in the memory. Additional resistors and switch logic may be included to enable re-positioning of the adjustable tap resistor within the resistor ladder. Latches and address control may be provided on the memory to enable programming and selection of multiple gamma correction values.

  • Publication number: 20050054759
Abstract: Novel elastomeric compositions which contain at least one thermoplastic elastomer and at least one phase change solvent and at least one processing oil. The presence of particular processing oils, e.g., poly(alphaolefins), provide a means to increase mechanical properties compared to commercially available mineral oils. The oils of the present invention are chosen as to minimize the depression of glass transition temperature of the hard-block of the thermoplastic elastomer. The phase change behavior of these materials produce elastomeric compositions that exhibit lowered viscosity and lowered processing temperature without substantially compromising the mechanical properties of the elastomeric composition.
