Abstract: A mask for covering a user's nose and mouth includes covering material and a band system. The covering material includes an upper section and a lower section and the band system includes a main band for attachment to upper side edges of the upper section, and a lower band for attachment to the lower section. The main band remains attached at all times to the upper side edges of the upper section to hold the upper section of the covering material against the user's face at all times when worn. The user maintains connection of the lower band when the lower section is to be closely held against the user's face while the mask is worn by the user, and releases connection of the lower band when the lower section of the covering material is to hang freely in front of the user's face while the mask is worn.
