Abstract: A keyboard overlay for use on a touch screen is disclosed, as well as novel key structures for use on overlays. The keyboard overlay and key structures have novel structures which can provide finger resting resistance, deceleration during actuation, pre-actuation cues, finger positioning cues, key identification cues, and other desired aspects of a keyboard optimized for touch typing. Methods for stowing and deploying the keyboard overlay to align with the virtual keyboard of a touch screen are also disclosed. The disclosed keyboard overlay can provide optimal touch typing characteristics for use on all known types of touch screens.

Abstract: A system and method for dynamically displaying data items on a client computer. In one aspect of the invention, the client computer displays a graphical user interface having a windowing environment and a desktop. The desktop includes a ticker display pane for dynamically displaying the data items. The data items may contain hyperlinks so that a user has access to information on multiple server computers. The data items are displayed in a substantially continuous sequence and may be provided from Internet servers, Intranet servers, LAN servers, and/or the client computer itself.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying a rich multimedia document in the same window as a desktop window. In one aspect of the invention a client computer connects to a computer network, such as the Internet, and retrieves a channel guide or list of content providers from which a user can select one or more content providers. The client computer retrieves a document associated with a content provider selected from the channel guide. The document is integrated into the desktop window on the client computer. The document received may be an HTML document including hyperlinks for allowing a user to jump to another document (e.g., folder, FTP site, other HTML documents, etc.) associated with the hyperlink.

The theme's resources can include hypertext templates which define the graphical user interface displays as hypertext pages, allowing the theme to provide a wide variety of enhancements to the displays including text, graphics, hyperlinks, and software components, among others. Abstract: An interactive computer system displays informational and control objects consisting of multiple panels that facilitate browsing and selecting an element from a group of menus. Multiple menus are presented in a three-dimensional structure that contains one panel for each menu. Each panel is connected to another to form the three-dimensional object. When the menu is opened, the computer system provides high quality animation that illustrates the three-dimensional nature of the object and the relationship between the panels. The user can spin or rotate the three-dimensional object to reveal other menu panels. As each panel is revealed, the three-dimensional object is animated to show the spinning of the menu structure and the relationship between the menu panels.
