The system includes first enterprise including a workstation running a CAD application relating to a first engineering discipline; a second workstation running a CAD application relating to a second engineering discipline; a first storage device coupled to the first workstation; a second storage device coupled to the second workstation; a server executing a multi-discipline universal CAD library application; and a network connection for allowing the workstations and the server to communicate. The system also comprises a communications link to a second enterprise for allowing the second enterprise to communicate with the first enterprise. The system also comprises a commercial database accessible to both enterprises via the communications link.
