Patent number: 6442899Abstract: A hinge assembly for casement windows is shown. The hinge assembly includes a slide block for connection to the sash arm that includes a reinforcing plate that extends downward before extending upward and around the flange of the track overhang. A larger undercut portion is provided beneath the reinforcing plate for added clearance between the slide block and fasteners used to secure the track to the window sill. The hinge assembly also includes a pivot base which is pivotally connected to the shorter tie bar or toggle link. The position of the pivot base with respect to the track can be adjusted to compensate for sash sag. An additional hole is also provided to provide new anchorage in the case of a sash sag adjustment or additional anchorage for use in high wind areas. The pivot base also includes a quick disconnect retainer disposed beneath the pivot base and between the pivot base and the track and thereby hidden from plain view.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2000Date of Patent: September 3, 2002Assignee: Roto Frank of AmericaInventor: Steven Anthony Gledhill

Publication number: 20020119000Abstract: A rotational spring clip is provided for connecting a male component to a female component. The spring clip is pivotally secured to a female component. The male component includes a male member that extends through a hole in the female component. The spring clip is then rotated to engage the male component with a structure that includes two spaced apart legs that define an open mouth. The legs of the clip are trapped between a flange formed at the outer distal end of the male member that extends through and beyond the female component. The legs of the clip are then frictionally trapped between the flange of the male member and an outer surface of the female component.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2001Publication date: August 29, 2002Inventor: Steven Anthony Gledhill

Patent number: 6284453Abstract: This invention is a method for controlling growth rate and metabolic state in fed-batch fermentations. Growth rate refers to the rate of exponential growth. Metabolic state refers to the relative consumption rates of the carbon and nitrogen sources. The method is based on a new use of the pH control reagent addition rate (RAR) and thus requires pH control and measurement of the RAR. The method also requires measurement of the oxygen uptake rate (OUR), or measurement of the biomass concentration (X) along with the reactor volume (V), or all three. Either the preferred embodiment or the first additional embodiment can be used when one metabolite limits growth and the metabolic state is determined by the organism through the growth rate. In the preferred embodiment, the controller feeds the growth-limiting metabolite such that the reagent-oxygen metabolic quotient, defined as RAR/OUR, is maintained at a set point corresponding to the desired growth rate.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1999Date of Patent: September 4, 2001Inventor: Steven Anthony Siano

Patent number: 6266412Abstract: Disclosed is an encrypting speech processor architecture that provides enhanced security without the use of external cryptosync and with minimal speech degradation. This is accomplished by incorporating a block encryptor and a keystream generator (instead of a fixed secret mask encryption scheme, such as those implemented in voice ciphers) for encrypting blocks of encoded speech bits at a transmitter side. The block encryptor employs an invertible cryptographic algorithm and internal cryptosync to convert a first block of encoded speech bits into a first ciphertext block. The first ciphertext block is used to generate a keystream, which is then used to encrypt a second ciphertext block.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1998Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Adam L. Patent number: 6090123Abstract: A surgical handpiece (940) for actuating a cutting attachment (944). The handpiece includes a housing (942) which contains a motor (52) for driving the cutting attachment. A coupling assembly (948) releasably holds the cutting attachment to the housing and connects the attachment to the motor. A state marker, such as a magnet (1012), is disposed in the housing. The state marker is connected to the coupling assembly to undergo physical displacement when the coupling assembly is transitioned from the run state to the attachment release state. A sensor (960) monitors the physical displacement of the state marker. Whenever the state marker undergoes physical displacement, the output signal from the sensor changes. Thus, an external device can monitor when the handpiece coupling assembly (948) is transitioned from the run to the release state by monitoring the output signal from the sensor (960).Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1999Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: Stryker CorporationInventors: Jerry A.
