  • Publication number: 20070258665
Abstract: A reclosable gusseted bag is disclosed wherein a single web multiple alignment zipper is placed around the interior of the mouth of the bag, downwardly adjacent from the upper edge of the front panel, rear panel and side gussets thereby resulting in an increased size of opening as the mouth of the gusseted bag. The use of a single web multiple alignment zipper allows opposing portions of the web to engage each other within a range of alignments thereby allowing for simplified use by the consumer.

  • Publication number: 20070225141
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods for forming reclosable bags with slider zippers which can be used in high pressure pasteurization. In particular, these methods form reclosable bags with a shroud formed over the slider zipper, with a patch or cap for protecting the slider during high pressure pasteurization. When the user tears the shroud from the bag, the patch or cap remains attached to the shroud but releases from the slider. An alternative embodiment forms an air pocket in the shroud to protect the slider.

  • Patent number: 7241046
Abstract: A watertight closure for a reclosable package has first and second mutually interlocking profiles. Together, the profiles have two sets of interlocking members, one on either side of a central portion. There, at least one profile has a collapsible member in its central portion. The other profile may have a compressing member or a collapsible member opposite to the collapsible member, or it may have neither. In any event, when the first and second mutually interlocking profiles are joined to one another, the collapsible member encounters and compresses against the other profile to create a watertight seal.

  • Publication number: 20070151210
Abstract: Methods of manufacturing reclosable packages having a slider-operated string zipper covered by a tamper-evident shroud that is provided with at least one opening that at least partially exposes the slider. In accordance with one method, openings are formed in a web of packaging material that is folded, placed over the slider-operated string zipper, and attached to the receptacle walls to form a shroud. Preferably, the openings are sized, shaped and situated so that they frame the slider on both sides of the shroud. In accordance with another method, a reclosable package having a slider-operated string zipper and a shroud with openings that at least partially expose the slider can be formed using a single web of packaging material that is folded and sealed to form a shroud that covers the string zipper.

  • Publication number: 20070000098
Abstract: The present disclosure relates a leakproof or leak-resistant zipper with profiles which include an inter-engaging element with inter-engaging fingers and a leakproof or leak-resistant structure. The slider, when moved in the closing direction, urges the fingers of one profile to inter-engage with the fingers of the other profile and further urges the elements of the leakproof or leak-resistant structure into engagement with each other. The slider, when moved in the opening direction, separates the inter-engaging fingers of the inter-engaging elements and further allows the elements of the leakproof or leak-resistant structure to separate.

  • Publication number: 20060277737
Abstract: The disclosure pertains to methods for inserting a soft cap onto a slider in order to protect the slider from damaging the package film of a reclosable bag during high pressure pasteurization. A first embodiment discloses manual or automated insertion of the soft cap onto the slider, prior to inserting the slider/cap assembly onto a length of zipper. A second embodiment discloses automated insertion of the soft cap onto a slider which is already mounted on a length of reclosable zipper. A third embodiment uses an insert molding process with a first mold cavity to form the slider and a second mold cavity to form the soft cap over the slider. A fourth embodiment uses a dual shot molding process in a single mold cavity to form both the slider and the soft cap thereover.

  • Patent number: 7121064
Abstract: A method for dual manufacture of reclosable packages on a horizontal-form, vertical fill machine. The method comprising the following steps: extending a web of bag making film under tension in a machine direction; joining one zipper tape to the web along a first zone of joinder generally aligned with the machine direction; joining another zipper tape to the web along a second zone of joinder generally parallel to the first zone of joinder and spaced apart therefrom; and folding the web in first, second and third mutually parallel zones extending in the machine direction. The first zone of folding is disposed between a first edge of the web and the one zipper tape, the second zone of folding is disposed between the two zipper tapes, and the third zone of folding is disposed between the other zipper tape and a second edge of the web. The resulting folded web with attached zippers has a generally W-shaped profile.

  • Publication number: 20060228056
Abstract: A process for manufacturing reclosable bags (30) by forming a film (50) includes moving the film (50) and attaching to the film (50) sequentially and crosswise with reference to the direction of movement of the film (50), a fastener (1) including a first strip (2) supporting at least one reclosable profile (10) engaged with another reclosable profile (12) that is complementary thereto and supported by a second strip (4) or a part of the first strip (2), which will subsequently be attached to the film (50). Each strip (2, 4) includes at least one web (6, 8) extending substantially mostly sideways on one side of the profiles (12). The above arrangements make possible special fasteners (1) that include sliders (9), gasket membranes (26), fasteners inverted within the bag (30), peel seals (18, 20, 21) and hinged fasteners (1).

  • Publication number: 20060228054
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a semi-soft cap or patch which is secured by adhesive to a slider on a zipper in a reclosable package. This cap or patch prevents the slider from puncturing the web or film of the bag during high pressure pasteurization. Further, the cap or patch is secured to a tear-away header which is formed as a shroud over the zipper. This allows the user to tear off the header which likewise removes the cap or patch from the slider. The header, with the cap or patch still attached thereto, can thereafter be disposed of as a single piece.

  • Publication number: 20060207221
Abstract: The disclosure relates to various embodiments and alternatives for vertical form fill and seal methods and apparatus. In particular, two sheets of web are fed by forming collars to a fill tube (or in some embodiments, side by side fill tubes) wherein the sheets of web are wrapped approximately 180 degrees around the periphery of the fill tube. Zippers can be provided mounted transversely on the first sheet of web, mounted in the machine direction on the first sheet of web, or fed as a continuous length between the two longitudinal edges of the two sheets of web. Additionally, some embodiments fill side by side bags from a single fill tube. Other embodiments fill side by side bags from side by side fill tubes.

  • Patent number: 7096646
Abstract: A method of forming, filling and sealing a reclosable package with a slider activated zipper wherein a base film moves longitudinally to a filling station and, in a moving direction, away from said filling station. At the filling station a product is fed onto the base film. As the base film carrying product is moved from the filling station, a zipper with a slider attached is fed onto the moving film in the moving direction of the base film. The zipper has a first profile and a second profile, each of which has an attached web extending away from the slider. A top film is applied over the base film and the first profile web is sealed to the base film and the second profile web is sealed to the top film. The package is completed by transversely cross-sealing the base film and the top film together on opposite sides of the product. The base and top films may be formed from the same sheet folded over or may be formed from separate sheets.
