  • Patent number: 5683068
Abstract: An appliance such as an all-in-one personal computer unit is mounted on a support assembly which provides for horizontal swiveling and vertical tilting of the computer unit. The support assembly includes three pieces, namely, base, swivel and tilt members mounted one upon the other and interconnected by snap-in connections. The center of gravity of the computer unit lies substantially on vertical and horizontal axes of rotation of the support structure.

  • Patent number: 5673982
Abstract: An appliance such as a personal computer is assembled by attaching a monitor to a metal chassis in predetermined positional relationship thereto. Thereafter, an outer housing is installed around the chassis/monitor unit by mounting a front housing portion (bezel) to a rear housing portion. The attaching of the monitor to the chassis is achieved by the use of brackets mounted on respective flanges of the monitor. Each bracket includes a threaded hole aligned with a threaded hole of the chassis. A mounting screw extends through the flange and is threadedly secured in the threaded holes of the chassis and bracket to secure the monitor to the chassis while simultaneously fixing the positional relationship therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5661630
Abstract: An appliance such as a personal computer includes a chassis, a monitor mounted to the chassis, and an outer housing encompassing the chassis. The chassis comprises a base portion, and a frame portion removably mounted to the base portion. The monitor is mounted to the frame portion in precise locational relationship thereto to form a frame/monitor unit that can be dismounted or mounted relative to a chassis base portion. The base and frame portions include mutually engageable positioning projections for precisely locating the frame portion with respect to the base portion.

  • Patent number: 5623391
Abstract: A personal computer includes an outer housing, including a front bezel to which frames a monitor screen of the computer. Speakers are mounted to the back of the bezel, and apertured speaker covers are disposed in front of the speakers. The speaker covers are of smaller size than the bezel, and are non-releasably mounted to the bezel by tamper-resistant snap-in couplings.

  • Patent number: 5613011
Abstract: A personal computer includes an outer housing which includes a front bezel that frames a monitor screen. A microphone assembly is attached to the bezel by a friction-fit. The bezel includes a cylindrical projection forming a socket. The microphone assembly includes a circuit board to which is mounted a microphone-carrying resilient body. The body is attached to the circuit board by spring fingers and includes a groove for receiving the cylindrical projection of the bezel.

  • Patent number: 5583743
Abstract: An appliance such as a personal computer includes an outer housing, including a front bezel which frames a monitor screen of the computer. The bezel carries speakers which are secured to the bezel by snap arms that are integrally molded with the bezel from a plastic material. The bezel also includes locator pins which engage locator holes of the speakers, and ribs which engage the speakers to resist speaker vibration.

  • Patent number: 5515244
Abstract: A light pipe for a personal computer transmits light from a lamp to an indicator window formed in the computer housing. The pipe is formed of a block of light-transmitting plastic material and includes a plurality of sections oriented perpendicular to one another. Light rays are reflected from each section to the next off an inclined light reflecting surface. One of the sections is of square cross section, and the next section is of non-square cross section. The light reflecting surface disposed at a junction between those two sections is of stepped configuration to form a series of sub-faces, each of which is inclined at a 45 degree angle relative to oncoming light rays for reflecting light across the entire cross section of the non-square section.

  • Patent number: 4759466
Abstract: An enclosure having an improved seam for inhibiting passage of electromagnetic radiation through the enclosure is described. The enclosure having a housing and a removable cover are joined at its respective edges. A plurality of spaced-apart tabs extend from an edge and slideably engage a plurality of slots which are formed on an interior surface adjacent to a corresponding mating edge. A domed projection on each tab slides into recessed cavities located on each slot to form a tight mechanical connection. The enclosure has a metal-coated interior surface and mating surface, wherein the tabs and slots operate to electrically couple the cover to the housing.
