  • Publication number: 20130266454
Abstract: An airfoil comprises leading and trailing edges with pressure and suction surfaces defining a chord length therebetween. The pressure and suction surfaces extend from a root section of the airfoil to a tip section. A tip shelf is formed along the tip section between the pressure surface and a tip shelf wall spaced between the pressure surface and the suction surface. A squealer pocket is formed along the tip section between the tip shelf wall and a squealer tip wall extending from the suction surface. The tip shelf extends from within 10% of the cord length measured from the leading edge to within 10% of the chord length measured from the trailing edge. The squealer pocket extends from within 10% of the chord length measured from the leading edge to terminate between 10% and 25% of the chord length measured from the trailing edge.

  • Patent number: 8548753
Abstract: A process fluid flow measurement device includes a fluid flow member having an inlet with a first diameter and a throat with a second diameter that is smaller than the first diameter. A first process fluid pressure tap is disposed proximate the inlet and a second process fluid pressure tap is disposed proximate the throat. A differential pressure sensor is operably coupled to the first and second process fluid pressure taps. Differential pressure measurement circuitry is coupled to the differential pressure sensor to provide a differential pressure signal related to a difference in pressure between process fluid pressure at the first and second taps. A process fluid velocity measurement device is positioned in the throat to measure a velocity of process fluid flowing therethrough and provide a fluid velocity indication. The differential pressure sensor signal and the fluid velocity indication are used to provide a calculated indication of fluid flow.

Abstract: An airfoil includes a leading edge, a trailing edge region, a suction surface, a pressure surface, a cooling passageway, and a column of flow separators. The suction surface and the pressure surface both extend axially between the leading edge and the trailing edge region, as well as radially from a root section of the airfoil to a tip section of the airfoil to define a central cavity of the airfoil. The cooling passageway is located within the central cavity at the trailing edge region. The column of flow separators is located in the cooling passageway adjacent the trailing edge and includes a first flow separator having a first longitudinal axis and a second flow separator having a second longitudinal axis. • Publication number: 20130136876
Abstract: The disclosure relates to methods of forming a vessel and to the resulting vessel. The vessel may be formed by providing a first fumed silica soot layer comprised of primary particles of fumed silica soot, and then providing over the first fumed silica soot layer a second fumed silica soot layer comprised of agglomerated particles formed into an agglomerated form from primary particles of fumed silica soot. The primary particles of the first fumed silica soot layer may have a substantially uniform density distribution, and the agglomerated particles of the second fumed silica soot layer may have a substantially non-uniform density distribution. The methods may include consolidating the first and second soot layers together to form a consolidated body.

  • Publication number: 20130000840
Abstract: Methods for forming optical fiber preforms with low-index trenches are disclosed. According to one embodiment, the method includes depositing silica-based glass soot on a bait rod to form a low-index trench region of the optical fiber preform. The silica-based glass soot is deposited such that the low-index trench region has a first density. Thereafter a barrier layer having a second density greater than the first density is formed around the low-index trench region. Therafter, an overclad region is deposited around the barrier layer. The bait rod is then removed from a central channel of the trench-overclad assembly. A separate core assembly is inserted into the central channel. A down-dopant gas is then directed through the central channel of the trench-overclad assembly as the trench-overclad assembly is heated to dope the low-index trench region. The barrier layer prevents diffusion of the down-dopant from the low-index trench region into the overclad region.
