Patent number: 10546524Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed that relate to modifying a display of a portable electronic device to account for ambient light. For example, one disclosed embodiment provides a method comprising determining an ambient light history including a plurality of ambient light color conditions sensed over a duration of device operation by an ambient light sensor, reading a display-ready image having a plurality of pixels from an image source, adjusting a manner in which the display-ready image is displayed by color-shifting at least a subset of the plurality of pixels based on the plurality of ambient light color conditions in the ambient light history to thereby generate a color-modified image, and displaying the color-modified image on the display of the portable electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2019Date of Patent: January 28, 2020Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Cynthia Sue Bell, Kevin Woo, Philip L. Barnes, Steven C. Glenner

Patent number: 8666156Abstract: In accordance with one or more aspects of the image-based backgrounds for images, an image is analyzed in order to identify a color that represents the image. An enhanced background is generated based at least in part on the identified color, and both the image and the enhanced background are output on a screen. In addition, or alternatively, the identified color can be saved as being associated with the image in order to be used to generate an enhanced background for the image when the image is displayed.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2012Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Gyorgy K. Publication number: 20110320560Abstract: Content may be authored on a device using various types of information, and may be propagated at various different fidelities. In one example, a user enters or captures information on a mobile device, such as a smart phone. The entered and/or captured information may be sent to a remote service, which provides information based on the entered and/or captured data. An application on the device then allows the user of the device to author rich content based on the entered and/or captured data, and based on the information returned from the service. The application may allow the user to include text, photos, video, audio, links, or any other type of content. The entire content object that the user creates may be stored in a structured form, and may be propagated at various different fidelities (e.g., text only, etc.) in order to accommodate the limitations of the propagation channel.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2010Publication date: December 29, 2011Applicant: MICROSOFT CORPORATIONInventors: Eric Paul Bennett, Christian James Colando, Matthew Bret MacLaurin, Scott V. Patent number: 7437005Abstract: Described is a system and method including a user interface to manage sets of digital data (e.g., files) such as digital photographs or email messages. The system and method comprise a rapid sort mechanism and an underlying support mechanism that associates metadata with each set of digital data, including annotation metadata obtained from the sort mechanism. As the user scrolls through images that represent the sets of digital data and categorizes them, metadata as to its particular categorization or lack of categorization is implicitly obtained and associated with each set of digital data. Grouping of sets of digital data into clusters is also provided, with a visual indication as to which cluster a set of digital data belongs. With respect to digital photography, the system and method makes annotating and classifying digital photographs significantly easier and faster than contemporary photograph management mechanisms.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2004Date of Patent: October 14, 2008Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Steven M.
