  • Patent number: 6017463
Abstract: An improved tungsten plug/Local Interconnect slurry for Chemical Mechanical Polishing which does not require inclusion of a chemical stabilizer. The slurry is made using a combination of two separate batch mixings of stable ingredients and Point-of Use mixing of portions of the two batches, whereby the oxidizers are combined with the coated abrasive mixture immediately prior to dispensing the slurry onto the polishing pad by combining selected flows from each of the two batches to form a total flow rate equal to the required rate of slurry flow onto the polishing pad.

  • Patent number: 6017456
Abstract: A fluid separation system is disclosed for installation within a wellbore that penetrates a production formation and a discharge formation. The system comprises a first pump and a second pump each operatively connected to a means for operation, such as a downhole electric motor, and a fluid separator for separating wellbore fluids from the production formation into a first stream and a lighter second stream. Wellbore fluids are introduced into the first pump, and are then conveyed to an inlet of the fluid separator. The second stream exiting the fluid separator is conveyed to an inlet of the second pump, and from the second pump to the earth's surface. Devices are included, such as wellbore packers, to isolate the discharge formation from the production formation, so that the second stream exiting the fluid separator directly enters the discharge formation.

  • Patent number: 6012900
Abstract: In a pumping system, a PEEK composite material may be applied to wear areas on internal components. Typically, the internal component provides a metallic substrate which is prepared with a metallic bonding layer arc sprayed onto its surface, at least at the wear area. A powderized PEEK composite material is heated and propelled against the substrate and bonding layer by a high velocity oxy fuel technique. This uniformly coats the substrate providing a durable wear surface for prolonging component life.

  • Patent number: 6012458
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for tracking scan plane motion in free-hand three-dimensional ultrasound scanning using adaptive speckle correlation. The method employs a correlation index which adapts to different display dynamic range and post-processing filters. The method may include the following steps: choosing a kernel within each frame image for correlation calculations; rejecting duplicate image frames; measuring the degree of correlation between successive image frames; rejecting correlation estimates which may be associated with hand jitter and other artifacts; and computing the average frame-to-frame (i.e., interslice) spacing based on the average correlation estimate. This image-based motion tracking technique enables three-dimensional reconstruction with good geometric fidelity, without use of any external position-sensing device.

  • Patent number: 6010732
Abstract: Disclosed are improved methods for preparing a grain based extrudate involving high screw speeds, short barrel length extruders and short residence times. Preferred methods of preparation reside in methods for preparing the present improved RTE cereal or snack products. The preferred methods contain the steps in sequence of feeding an at least partially ungelatinized grain based material to a cooker extruder having at least one rotating screw, said cooker extruder including a barrel preferably having a relatively short length to diameter ("L/D") ratio of substantially less than 12; working the grain based material by rotating the screw at a rotational speed of at least 700 rpm to mix and heat the cereal material and to compress the grain based material; and extruding the plasticized mass through at least one die orifice to form an extrudate. Its preferred product aspect provides RTE cereal or snack products in the form of a puffed grain based product piece having a density of about 10 to 100 g/l.

  • Patent number: 6004036
Abstract: A fluid dynamic bearing cartridge including a sleeve and a counterplate captured within a shoulder on the sleeve and including a threaded mounting extension for mounting the assembly from a base or the like. A rotating shaft is incorporated within the sleeve; the shaft includes a thrust plate which rotates in a recess defined between the counterplate and the sleeve. To incorporate this assembly into a disc drive or the like, the threaded mounting extension only needs to be mounted within a base, with a nut screwed over the threaded mounting. The base typically includes a raised portion; the sleeve is cantilevered from this base for further stability and eliminate the possibility of vibration of the shaft and sleeve with rotation of the shaft. The end of the shaft distal from the threaded mounting supports a hub which in turn supports a backiron and magnet. The base supports a stator aligned with the magnet; energization of the stator will cause rotation of the hub and the shaft.

  • Patent number: 6006332
Abstract: A system is provided for controlling access to digitized data. An unsecure client is provided with a launch pad program which is capable of communicating with a secure Rights Management (RM) server. The launch pad program provides an indicator to a public browser, used by the unsecured client, which acknowledges when a rights management controlled object is detected. Once a rights management object is detected, operational control is transferred from the public browser to the launch pad. The launch pad will communicate with the secured RM server and request the digitized data corresponding to the controlled object. In response thereto, the RM server identifies the type of data being requested, i.e. text, audio, video, etc. and transmits this information to the launch pad. The launch pad then searches whether a secure RM browser appropriate to handle this data is resident on the client. When it is determined that no RM browser is resident, the launch pad requests an appropriate browser from the RM server.

  • Patent number: 6005506
Abstract: A receiver comprising a sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter (.SIGMA..DELTA. ADC) can be utilized in one of four configurations, as a subsampling bandpass receiver, a subsampling baseband receiver, a Nyquist sampling bandpass receiver, or a Nyquist sampling baseband receiver. For subsampling .SIGMA..DELTA. receivers, the sampling frequency is less than twice the center frequency of the input signal into the .SIGMA..DELTA. ADC. For Nyquist sampling .SIGMA..DELTA. receivers, the sampling frequency is at least twice the highest frequency of the input signal into the .SIGMA..DELTA. ADC. For baseband .SIGMA..DELTA. receivers, the center frequency of the output signal from the .SIGMA..DELTA. ADC is approximately zero or DC. For bandpass .SIGMA..DELTA. receivers, the center frequency of the output signal from the .SIGMA..DELTA. ADC is greater than zero.

  • Patent number: 6000564
Abstract: An uncoupling cam is incorporated into a hook-type coupler. Couplers of this variety are typically found on railway transit vehicles, one hook-type coupler being fixed to each end of each transit vehicle. Moving two transit vehicles toward each other so that their ends come together will eventually cause their respective hook-type couplers to couple together automatically. It is in this manner that a passenger transit train is formed with each of its vehicles being mechanically linked to an adjacent vehicle. Each hook-type coupler has a pivotally mounted hook member that can be pivoted between a latch position and an unlatch position. A biasing means inside the hook-type coupler is used to keep the hook member normally biased to the latch position. The uncoupling cam features a solid body and a roller. The body of the cam has a uniform polygonal cross-section to an edge of which the roller is rotatably secured. The roller is adapted to rollably engage a surface of the hook member.
