  • Patent number: 8655627
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for designing multilayer structures are described. The multilayer structures may be of simple or complex shapes having a volume to be filled by multiple layers of composite material. The composite material may include fiber/polymer composites. The methods facilitate distribution and reordering of layers within the multilayer structure during the design phase. Dimensional data for each layer within the structure may be provided as output data and used to cut “flat” patterns for each layer. The methods and apparatus can accelerate design and development of high-strength, composite multilayer structures.

  • Publication number: 20140037258
Abstract: Methods for the fabrication of orientation-patterned semiconductor structures are provided. The structures are light-waveguiding structures for nonlinear frequency conversion. The structures are periodically poled semiconductor heterostructures comprising a series of material domains disposed in a periodically alternating arrangement along the optical propagation axis of the waveguide. The methods of fabricating the orientation-patterned structures utilize a series of surface planarization steps at intermediate stages of the heterostructure growth process to provide interlayer interfaces having extremely low roughnesses.

  • Publication number: 20120116889
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing audio advertisements in a computer network enables Web sites to deliver audio advertisements that cannot be bypassed by a visitor. More particularly, an advertising or sponsoring Web site receives a request from at least one user for delivery of a user-selected Web page associated with the Web site. The Web site selects at least one audio advertisement from a plurality of audio advertisements for delivery to the user in conjunction with the user-selected Web page. The Web site then delivers the audio advertisement to the user via the network in a format that precludes the user from controlling the manner of playback of the audio advertisement.

  • Patent number: RE44785
Abstract: A vehicle immobilization system has an electronically controlled locking mechanism which requires interconnection with an electrical supply for it to be switched between a locked state and an unlocked state. The locking mechanism remains in the state to which it is switched when disconnected from the electrical supply. The immobilization system includes control means which operates to connect the locking mechanism to the electrical supply to switch it from one state to the other, and to disconnect the locking mechanism from the electrical supply when the vehicle engine is running or the vehicle is moving. The immobilization system also includes means to prevent cranking of the engine when the locking mechanism is in it's locked state.
