  • Patent number: 6459051
Abstract: A sliding power switch is provided. The switch includes a power interface module having a first power port, a second power port and a third power port. The switch also includes a shunt adapted to engage with the power interface module in a first position so as to provide a first electrical path from one of the first, second, and third power ports to another one of the first, second, and third power ports and a second position so as to provide a second electrical path from one of the first, second, and third power ports to another of the first, second, and third power ports. The switch further includes a shunt retainer coupled to the shunt and adapted to aid in placing and removing the shunt from the first and second positions and a slide actuator adapted to engage with and enable the shunt retainer to slide from the first position to the second position.

  • Patent number: 6173203
Abstract: A floating mounting structure is provided for protectively mounting an electronic circuitry system within an automated external defibrillator case. A method of assembling an electronic circuitry system within an automated external defibrillator case is also provided. A circuit mounting system is utilized and includes a spacer and a shock mount. The spacer may include cut out portions to accommodate raised elements on circuit boards of the electronic circuitry system. The spacer is disposed between two circuit boards which may be affixed to each other. The affixed circuit boards and spacer are folded within the shock mount and disposed within the defibrillator case. Alternatively, a single mounting structure may be used to secure and protect the circuit board within the defibrillator case. A shielding may be present on an exterior surface of the foam mounting structures to protect the electronic circuitry from electromagnetic interference.

  • Patent number: 6064909
Abstract: An automated external defibrillator (AED) having a housing and an openable lid with a water resistant speaker port formed in the housing below the openable lid. A water resistant fabric is attached underneath the speaker port to resist water passing into the interior of the AED while allowing clear sound output from the speaker located beneath the speaker port. A microphone is positioned adjacent to the speaker port in the AED for recording emergency scene ambient activities. This position uses the existing water resistant opening thereby taking advantage of the good sound transmitting properties of the opening for recording purposes and at the same time eliminating the need for an additional cavity in the housing where water could ingress. Positioning the microphone near the speaker also eliminates the need for an additional wiring harness.

  • Patent number: 5868794
Abstract: An AED includes a housing. Electronic circuitry is disposed in the housing for delivery of an electric shock to a stricken patient. A removable battery pack is selectively, operably, communicatively coupled to the electronic circuitry. The battery pack has an anticipatory detector for generating an anticipatory signal to the electronic circuitry. The signal indicates to the electronic circuitry that the disengagement of the battery pack from the AED is imminent. The present invention further includes a method for ensuring that the high voltage storage circuits of the AED are safely discharged prior to disengaging the battery pack from the AED.

  • Patent number: 5530302
Abstract: A circuit board capable of live-insertion or hot-swapping into a live chassis backplane. The circuit board is provided with a power control circuitry for gracefully ramping up board power after insertion, or gracefully removing power just prior to physical removal of a circuit board from the board slot. A pair of ejector levers are provided on each side of the circuit board. A push button switch is provided proximate one ear thereof and is selectively opened or closed depending upon the position of an ejector cover which can be secured thereover in an interlocking relationship. Upon retraction of the extractor cover, the switch is opened, and the converse applies. Power MOSFETs are provided between the card edge and the board power busses which are gracefully turned on and off as a function of the switch position. A high-side gate driver provides an increased bias voltage, which bias voltage is communicated through the closed switch to the gates of the MOSFETs.
