Abstract: An apparatus that includes a keyboard movable by a user while her hands are resting on the keyboard actuates a pointing device for a computer system. The movement of the keyboard maneuvers or steers the pointing device, and the user's hands need never be lifted from or leave the keyboard. The apparatus actuating a pointing device includes a first tray and a second tray. The first tray has a surface, and a portion of the pointing device is located on the surface. The second tray is positioned above the first tray whereby motion of the second tray actuates the pointing device.
Abstract: A media eject mechanism is disclosed which includes an L shaped eject member having an ejection spring portion and a lock spring portion and a media housing which engages the lock spring portion such that when the lock spring portion is disengaged with the media housing the ejection spring portion causes the media to be ejected. Such a mechanism advantageously provides media eject functionality using a small number of discrete parts.
Abstract: An interconnection system for electronic devices includes an internal master connecting terminal which is arranged to receive and mate with one of a plurality of available modular interfacing devices. The electronic device includes a system of internally arranged support and housing cavities which are graduated in size to house and support the modular interfacing devices and provide a uniform and contiguous output interface for connection to other electronic and peripheral devices. The modular interfacing devices are designed to accomodate the inclusion of various bus arrangements as well as additional components and circuitry, both active and passive.
Abstract: A power supply system including a power supply providing power to an electronic device through current share circuitry, which includes a second connector for receiving power from an external power supply. The power supply is preferably a fault-tolerant power supply so that the electronic device receives continuous power in the event of partial failure. When the fault-tolerant power supply partially fails, the external power supply is connected to the second connector of the current share circuitry, which is switched to temporarily provide power to the electronic device from the external power supply. The power supply is then replaced while the external power supply provides power, so that power to the electronic device is continuously maintained. The electronic device thus experiences zero down-time. Even in low-end systems with a single power supply, down-time is substantially reduced. The external power supply is connected internally or through an external connector on the electronic device.
