  • Patent number: 7096157
Abstract: There are many files in the current generation of computers, especially on the hardfile, that are not used or used only infrequently during operation. For instance, the system may contain many help text files which may never be accessed. The same applies to the DLL's. Also, some files are accessed only during a boot cycle. The present invention provides a method and program to track the locations of files in a computer which have been accessed so that, when an error occurs, only the files that need to be tested are diagnostically tested for errors, thus saving time and resources.

  • Patent number: 7087228
Abstract: The present invention provides compositions, medicaments, and methods for the treatment or prophylaxis of conditions associated with the binding of Streptococcus mutans to teeth. Specifically, the present invention provides a method for preventing dental caries and infective endocarditis in a subject by treating the subject's oral cavity with a composition or medicament comprising the competence stimulating peptide (CSP) of the causative bacterium, which inhibits the ability of the said bacteria to attach to the surface of teeth. Novel anti-caries compositions using the CSP are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6721885
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for reducing power-up time and avoiding customer-induced failures of computer systems during power-up. An intrusion switch, which is connected to the inside frame of the computer system is utilized. The intrusion switch signals the BIOS of the computer system whenever the cover of the computer's system unit is opened. The BIOS controls the POST operation during power-up of the computer system. During an initial power-up of the computer system, the POST configuration code examines and configures the hardware and sets the applicable registers, etc. At the end of the POST configuration code, the register values are stored in non-volatile storage. During a subsequent power-up of the computer system, a check is made to see if the cover of the system had been opened. When the cover has not been opened, the BIOS assumes that no changed has occurred in the hardware configuration and the BIOS restores the register values from non-volatile storage without completing the POST operation.
