Patent number: 8547975Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for analyzing network traffic data to generate complex statistics associated with the network traffic in real-time through parallel processing and data pipelining. In one implementation, a system includes a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions that cause the processor to generate a plurality of program instances, wherein a first program instance observes the network traffic and uses a plurality of execution threads to distribute portions of the network traffic to additional program instances tasked with generating statistics associated with the network traffic. In other embodiments, a plurality of additional execution threads to the first program instance are tasked with generating the statistics. In either case, the generated statistics are placed into a data pipeline organized into time intervals of generated statistics, wherein the computation of higher-order statistics are computed as the lower-order time intervals are processed.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2011Date of Patent: October 1, 2013Assignee: Verisign, Inc.Inventors: John Kenneth Gallant, Jagadeesh Babu Nalluri, Steven D. Patent number: 7379592Abstract: A new processing capability for dust enhancement over land or water using image data from the Sea-viewing Wide Field of View Sensor (SeaWiFS) has been developed for Naval meteorology/oceanography (MetOc) operations support. The data are captured via direct broadcast high-resolution picture transmission (HRPT) at Navy Regional Centers in Rota, Bahrain, and Yokosuka, and processed at the Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey. The raw data are calibrated, corrected for missing lines and clutter, corrected for molecular scatter contamination, and enhanced through multispectral combination to yield value added products. The processing has been automated completely such that products, generated upon receipt of data, are hosted upon a password protected website typically 60 to 90 minutes from time of initial capture.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2004Date of Patent: May 27, 2008Assignee: United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Steven D. Patent number: 7375334Abstract: Compact, OSL-based devices for long-term, unattended radiation detection and spectroscopy are provided. In addition, a method for extracting spectroscopic information from these devices is taught. The devices can comprise OSL pixels and at least one radiation filter surrounding at least a portion of the OSL pixels. The filter can modulate an incident radiation flux. The devices can further comprise a light source and a detector, both proximally located to the OSL pixels, as well as a power source and a wireless communication device, each operably connected to the light source and the detector. Power consumption of the device ranges from ultra-low to zero. The OSL pixels can retain data regarding incident radiation events as trapped charges. The data can be extracted wirelessly or manually. The method for extracting spectroscopic data comprises optically stimulating the exposed OSL pixels, detecting a readout luminescence, and reconstructing an incident-energy spectrum from the luminescence.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2004Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: Leon Eric Smith, Steven D. Publication number: 20070188521Abstract: The present invention uses a dynamic transparency scheme to vertically blend a first layer of data onto a second layer of data and then horizontally merge multiple such “stacks.” For example, the present invention provided a satellite image wherein the transparency of the cloud formations dynamically changes and therefore provides a more accurate image of the cloud transparency based on its size and composition. The invention additionally provides for horizontal blending. The present invention provided a realistic day to night transition that is currently unavailable to previous systems. It should be understood that the present invention provides not only static images, but also moving images, for example, in a video. The present invention was used to produce a video that displayed a daytime-to-nighttime transition complete with cloud movement with realistic transparency.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2006Publication date: August 16, 2007Inventor: Steven D.
