    Abstract: A multiple virtual machine system with a microprocessor for executing instructions and issuing memory reads and writes to a current partition of a plurality of partitions. The multiple virtual machine may contain a partition management unit for receiving the memory reads and writes from the microprocessor for the current partition. A current partition cache is selected by the partition management unit for the current partition to receive the current partition memory reads and writes from the partition management unit. The current partition cache resolves memory read hits and misses. A next partition cache is selected by the partition management unit when the next partition becomes active on the microprocessor to receive next partition memory reads and writes from the microprocessor.

To adapt the various types of data and communications modules for selection of any one thereof to become attached to the base module and function therewith, each of the data and communications modules includes a microprocessor operable to function as an emulator to interact with the microprocessor of the base module and communicate with the microprocessor of the base module in accordance with the protocol of the data communications and control interface of the base module.

    Abstract: An electron beam accelerator system includes a high power switching device coupled between the direct current voltage source and the pulse forming network. A pulse control circuit is connected to control the high power switching device to selectively allow a current to flow to the pulse forming network. A voltage difference between a cathode and an anode structure creates an electron beam flowing therebetween. A control grid drive circuit is operatively coupled to the pulse control circuit and the control grid, and is operable to apply a time-varying voltage to the control grid synchronized with the pulse control circuit. The control grid therefore effectively provides a load on the high voltage output of a step-up transformer that prevents overshoot in the transformer output, reducing the risk of dielectric breakdown and failure due to transient high voltages.

    Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, a method of charging a battery includes supplying a charging current to the battery and measuring one or more battery parameters. The battery parameters may be, for example, temperature, voltage and/or charging current. The battery parameter measured is used to determine a charging current set point. The set point may be selected from a number of different set points stored in memory, where each set point corresponds to a respective battery parameter range. If the charging current being supplied to the battery is different from the charging current set point determined the charging current is adjusted to match the set point. The terminal may have volatile memory and other components requiring load current during charging. The system may automatically identify battery type and progressively increase charging current while monitoring for an increase in battery terminal voltage to ascertain the level of load current. The battery temperature may be brought into a relationship to surrounding temperature such that by applying a suitable overcharge current value and observing any resultant temperature increase, the level of remaining battery charge can be determined. For example, if the battery is found to be relatively fully discharged, a relatively high fast-charge rate may be safely applied while monitoring battery temperature.

The collected weight and size data are combined with origin and destination data, and labels are printed bearing pertinent shipping and routing information in machine readable format. The labels are attached to the articles to be shipped and accompany the articles to their respective destinations. At transfer points the labels are read by scanner devices which also communicate by low power transceiver links with the communication controller. The wireless linking of the scanner devices promotes human safety by the absence of cords which could cause entanglement of an operator in mechanized conveying equipment. The communication controllers at each stage of the shipping process have the capability of transferring received and updated status information on the shipped articles to a central data station.
