  • Publication number: 20090145625
Abstract: A power busway assembly includes a pair of opposing non-ferrous metal apertured side plates. The side plates have a U-shaped configuration and include a pair of top and bottom flanges that are joined by a flat piece. The power busway assembly further includes a means on one end of each of the flanges for interlocking the side plates together. The interlocking means intern has an angulated projection or an angulated slot. First rails extending from one of the pairs of flanges are also included that provide hanger support connection means. In addition, second rails extending from another one of the pairs of flanges are included that provide ground stab connection means. The power busway assembly further includes at least one brace that is interconnected with the flanges. The brace is dimensioned and configured to bias the interlocking means together. A method of securing a busway housing to busway power conductors is also presented.

  • Publication number: 20020046864
Abstract: A method is described for joining electrically conducting members using an apparatus having a pin typically formed of a material harder than the electrically conducting members. The apparatus causes the pin to rotate at high speeds between the electrically conducting members, wherein the rotating pin causes a portion of material from each electrically conducting member to plasticize and solidify a joint. By translating the apparatus along the joint, the pair of electrically conducting members can be joined without requiring the inclusion of additional filler material.

  • Patent number: 6352193
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for joining electrically conductive materials by friction stir welding. The apparatus includes a shaft portion for being received by a rotation imparting apparatus, and a second end having a cut-away portion configured for deflecting plasticized material during friction stir welding. A pilot formed of a material harder than the electrically conductive material extends from the second end. The pilot is configured and dimensioned for friction stir welding electrically conductive members together.

  • Patent number: 6329598
Abstract: A water-resistant busway with a water drainage duct of the present invention (10) comprises a joint assembly (12) arranged between the ends of first and second busway housings (14, 16). Joint assembly (12) includes a water-resistant cover (30) releasably attached to first and second housings (14, 16) by cover fastening devices (32, 34). Water-resistant cover (30) includes an access hole (36) disposed therein, with access hole (36) receiving a complementary access hole plug (38). Housing spacers (22, 24, 26, 28) each include a water drainage duct (118) disposed therein to drain water from above the water barrier (104) and web (46) of upper piece (42) of housing (14) to below the water barrier and web (46) of the lower piece (44) of housing (14).

  • Patent number: 5828006
Abstract: An electric power busway system has multi-phase power bus bar conductors that are each housed within an individual duct. Individually housing the bus bar conductors provides short-circuit bending resistance as well as superior thermal heat dissipation characteristics because of the improved conductive heat transfer between the bus bar conductors to the individual housing, as well as convective heat transfer from the individual housing assemblies into the ambient air. Wedge-type support braces retain each housed bus bar in position and provide short circuit support.
