  • Patent number: 8499853
Abstract: A wrench is disclosed which provides a hydraulically powered ratchet wrench within a compact footprint. One hydraulically powered piston operates to tighten a fastener, while a second hydraulic piston is operable to reset the first piston in preparation for a subsequent tightening operation. An intermediary torque multiplying device may be placed between the driven pistons and the object being acted upon by the pistons. Fluid supply hoses may be coupled to the wrench assembly using a two-axis swivel to facilitate insertion of the wrench assembly into areas that are difficult to access.

  • Publication number: 20110114344
Abstract: A hydraulic wrench is disclosed which may include a cylinder assembly disposed within a housing including first and second cylinders therein; first and second supply hoses, extending from a fluid supply, and carrying fluid therein; a swivel coupling the first and second hoses to the to the cylinder assembly; a first piston, within the first cylinder, coupled to the first hose and to a drive train, the first piston operable to transmit force through the drive train to transmit torque to a fastener to be driven by the wrench upon extending out of the first cylinder; and a second piston, within the second cylinder, coupled to the second hose and to the drive train, and operable, upon extending out of the second cylinder, to transmit force through the drive train to force the first piston into a retracted position.

  • Patent number: 7062992
Abstract: A wrench with torque augmenting means consisting of an output socket wrench which utilizes a ratchet arrangement and which includes an input cog that is adapted to receive an external drive tool. The input cog constantly rotates under the influence of the external drive tool and a camming surface formed on the arm of the input cog coacts with a cam follower surface on the drive plate of the output to move the drive plate. A spring within the housing of the apparatus connected to the drive plate will cause the drive plate to return to its initial position where the action of the camming surface of the rotating cog arm from the input cog can then repeat its function. Rotary movement of the output in one direction is accomplished during the oscillation of the drive plate by means of the ratchet positioned within the drive plate.

  • Publication number: 20030131691
Abstract: A compact hydraulic torque wrench which has an efficient design enabling it to be relatively small in size. The arrangement of the return spring for the hydraulic cylinder provides increased strength and reduces the size of the unit. The device is constructed to enable the drive arm to go through the entire travel without change in alignment. Additionally, the device includes a braking system for the reaction arm to ensure that a ratcheting effect occurs and that the proper return of the hydraulic piston can be accomplished by means of a return spring without the necessity for a hydraulic return of the piston.

  • Patent number: 6260443
Abstract: A wrench (10) with torque augmenter is provided which includes a linkage assembly (38) to join a drive input (46) with an output wrench socket (90). The linkage assembly (38) consists of a drive link (40) extending from the input socket (46) and coacting with a conversion link (42) extending to a ratchet (88) disposed about the output socket (90) of the wrench. Rotation of the drive link (40) pivots the conversion link (42) to transfer torque from the input to the output socket (90). A pawl (76) on the driven link (42) is provided to coact with the ratchet (88) which encircles the output socket (90). A guide (36) is disposed at the interior of the housing (12) for the wrench to coact with the linkage assembly (38) and maintain proper alignment during a torque operation, such that stress and force are substantially reduced or dissipated, if not eliminated, during the operation.

  • Patent number: 6148694
Abstract: A hand held wrench with augmenting means is provided which includes a linkage assembly to join a drive input with an output wrench socket. The linkage assembly consists of a drive link extending from the input socket and coacting with a conversion link extending to a ratchet disposed about the output socket of the device. Rotation of the drive link pivots the conversion link to transfer torque from the input to the output socket. A pawl on the driven link is provided to coact with a ratchet which encircles the output socket. A guide means is disposed in the interior of the housing of the device to coact with the linkage assembly to maintain proper alignment during a torque operation, such that stress and force are substantially reduced or dissipated, if not eliminated, during the operation. Another embodiment of the torque augmenting device is provided which includes a pair of sockets interconnected with a drive link assembly to which a pair of resilient means are operatively associated.

  • Patent number: 5966818
Abstract: A chisel with a removably mountable blade is provided which consists of a handle for the chisel having a head region formed with a detent to provide a space for receiving a first cutting edge of the blade, while the other opposed cutting edge of the blade is arranged for a cutting operation. The space provided by the detent in the head region is constructed and arranged to prevent the cutting edge in the detent from contacting the handle portion during a chiseling operation, thereby preventing dulling of the edge prior to it being pivoted into position for a subsequent cutting operation. The blade is provided with a transverse axis at opposed sides of which are arranged a cutting portion and a rake, which cutting portion and rake are asymmetrical to the cutting portion and rake at the opposite side of the transverse axis of the blade.

  • Patent number: 5907983
Abstract: In a first embodiment, a hexagonal threaded nut includes a pair of horizontal slots about a peripheral portion extending through the nut into a central threaded bore. The slots form jaws which are tightened by pairs of vertical screws about a threaded stud engaged within the central bore. The sides of the slots are forced together to firmly grip the stud. Stress relieving bores at the ends of the slots aid in applying a high torque to the stud and facilitate removal. A standard wrench can be used to rotate the nut and unscrew the stud. Another embodiment utilizes a pair of like threaded nuts positioned on a threaded stud with a fixed spacing therebetween. Screws passing through holes in the two nuts are tightened to compress the spacing and affix the nut to the stud to permit removal.

  • Patent number: 5871204
Abstract: A hand tool with a pivotal head portion includes a first manually rotatable collar which causes movement of a second slidable collar along a handle of the tool to secure the head portion at a desired angle with respect to the handle. Serrations on the tool head and slidable collar releasably engage each other to lock the head at the desired angle. The tool head is mounted on the handle using either ball and socket or tongue and groove configurations.
