Abstract: A method for auditing object inventory disposed at an inventory storage location that comprises installing a wireless base station having a base station transponder at the inventory storage location. The base station transponder transmits a first radio signal out to a predetermined base station signal range boundary. Disposing at least one object having a wireless portable object transponder within the predetermined base station signal range boundary. The portable object transponder transmits a first object transponder radio signal out to predetermined transponder signal range boundary that encompasses the wireless base station. Upon detecting the first portable object transponder radio signal the base station transponder transmits a second base station radio signal causing the portable object transponder to transmit a second portable object transponder radio signal to the base station transponder that includes unique identifier data pertaining to the object being audited.
