  • Publication number: 20160106007
Abstract: A thermal ducting rail receives a rack device in a rack chassis. The thermal ducting rail includes air flow guiding elements that enable cooling air from a front face of the rack chassis to be directed to an external side of the thermal ducting rail and from the external side to a rear face of the rack chassis. The thermal ducting rail enables rack devices equipped with side-to-side cooling to receive cooling air in a rack chassis with front-to-back cooling, without extending beyond a unit height occupied by the rack device.

  • Publication number: 20160100506
Abstract: An apparatus, an information handling system (IHS) and a method for supporting air flow management in a rack includes attaching a baffle made of a non-porous material with vertically-spaced apertures or air flow directing (AFD) sections with flanges that direct cooling air flow from heat dissipating electronic components of the rack towards a rear of the rack. The baffle is attached to a rear section of a chassis of the IHS. The baffle provides physical separation of (i) a cold aisle located towards a front section of the rack and the electronic components inserted into the rack chassis from (ii) a hot aisle located towards a rear of the rack. The flanges of the AFD section folds inward towards the electronic components to create a funnel for receiving a flow of cooling air from the hot aisle.

  • Publication number: 20160100502
Abstract: A method for designing and assembling a modular IT rack includes a manufacturer designing and constructing lightweight, modular corrugated cardboard modules/segments and corresponding banding and corner components that can be used to assemble the modular IT rack. A user/assembler of the modular IT rack assembles modular tray grouping and enclosure (MTGE) casing units using a first set of cardboard modules. The user constructs trays using a second set of cardboard modules. The user affixes cable support components to the sides of sub-groups of the constructed trays. The user encloses sub-groups of trays having the affixed cable support components within the assembled MTGE casing units to create MTGE blocks. The user vertically stacks the MTGE blocks having the tray sub-groups and the affixed cable support components enclosed within. The user aligns and secures the vertically stacked MTGE blocks in a fixed position using banding and corner components.

  • Publication number: 20160016769
Abstract: A rack-mounted information handling system (IHS) includes a rack to mount functional compute components between opposing lateral sides that are being supported by floor supports. A pair of rack lifting structures are each respectively positioned beside a different opposing lateral side of the rack. Each rack lifting structure includes a foot having at least front and rear floor contacting portions. A vertical support includes a lower portion that is coupled to the foot and an upper portion that extends above an adjacent top lateral frame member of the rack. A top member is coupled to the vertical support and presents front and rear attachment components to engage the adjacent top lateral frame member. A jack engagement surface is defined within the vertical support to receive one or more furniture jacks that can be used to lift the pair of rack lifting structures and the attached rack-mounted IHS.

  • Publication number: 20150359146
Abstract: An information handling system (IHS) when operational has compute components held by a lightweight server (LWS) chassis. For both shipping and operational support, the LWS chassis is inserted into a casing that is laterally sized to prevent lateral movement of the server chassis. The casing is formed of an impact tolerant material to protect the server chassis and any functional compute components inserted within the server chassis. In addition, the casing has sealable flaps that enable the server chassis to be fully enclosed within the casing. Thereby, the casing can be utilized as an external shipping carton in which the IHS can be physically shipped to a destination.
