  • Patent number: 5657646
Abstract: A gem cut with crown facets and base facets has a table and a principal culet located along the longitudinal axis of the gem. In addition, at least one additional culet is provided between the end of the gem and the principal culet. Extending from the extra culet to the end of the diamond, at the girdle, is an end base facet. Preferably, the end base facet is at the 41.degree. desired angle for diamonds. As so cut, the gem exhibits enhanced brilliance and the bow-tie dullness associated with side split facets is reduced resulting in overall enhanced brilliance to the stone. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the girdle of the stone is provided with eight straight edges and the girdle is symmetrical about both the longitudinal axis and the perpendicular cross axis. In this embodiment, a pair of extra culets and end base facets are provided. According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, the end base facets are further provided with end base split facets for further enhanced brilliance.
