Publication number: 20240357979Abstract: The present invention relates to agricultural practices for maximizing carbon sequestration, enhanced productivity, sustainable farming and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. In one embodiment, there is provided a method comprising: planting a Brassica carinata variety as a second crop in rotation with a first crop or to replace fallow; implementing land management practices to reduce the use of fossil fuel inputs and to maximize the capture of atmospheric carbon by the plant material of Brassica carinata; harvesting of the Brassica carinata variety to obtain the grain; and returning about 70% to about 90% of all plant material from the Brassica carinata variety aside from the grain to the soil. As a result, the overall greenhouse gas emissions associated with agriculture are reduced. In some embodiments, the method further comprises producing grain for use in the production of a plant-based feedstock for producing low carbon intensity fuels; for adding carbon in soil; and/or acquiring a carbon credit.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2024Publication date: October 31, 2024Applicant: NUSEED GLOBAL INNOVATION LTD.Inventors: Steven Fabijanski, Michael Lindenbaum, Mejda Benali

Publication number: 20050283853Abstract: The present invention relates to methods to control the spread of recombinant DNA molecules between sexually compatible plants of differing genetic composition. The invention describes the production of transgenic plants that comprise recombinant traits of interest or concern linked to repressible lethal genes. The lethal genes are blocked by the action of repressor molecules produced by the expression of repressor genes located at a different genetic locus. The lethal phenotype is only expressed after the segregation of the repressible lethal gene construct and the repressor gene following meiosis. The present invention may be employed for both open-pollinated and hybrid seed production systems and may be used to maintain genetic purity by blocking unintended introgression of genes from plants devoid of the specific repressor gene.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2004Publication date: December 22, 2005Inventors: Steven Fabijanski, Paul Arnison, Laurian Robert, Johann Schernthaner

Publication number: 20050060768Abstract: Genetic constructs, transformation vectors and methods are taught for production of transgenic plants which can be selectively removed from a growing site by application of a chemical agent or physiological stress. The invention links a target gene for the trait of commercial interest to a conditionally lethal gene, which can be selectively expressed to cause plant death. By use of the genetic constructs, transformation vectors and methods of the present invention, invasion of environments and contamination of commercial non-engineered productions by transgenic plants can be avoided. Methods are also taught for transformation of Brassica species.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 23, 2004Publication date: March 17, 2005Inventors: Wilfred Keller, Steven Fabijanski, Paul Arnison, Joseph Hammerlindl, Steven Webb
